If theres no fuel pressure then it's most likely your fuel pump, theres also a possibilty of clogged fuel lines/filter or a leak but not likely.

yeah it turns out to be the fuel pump and fuel filter. i asked them if it was my fault to cause this malfunction and they said no. so should i be responsible to pay for the repair or should BMW take care of it?

Your car is an '06 so it should be coming up on Warranty soon if you haven't busted out of 4/50 yet. If you're still under warranty it should be covered. However it sounds like you're not since you're asking about who should pay for it.

Unfortunately unless you can get a goodwill gesture from the dealership, you'll have to foot the bill for it. It's out of warranty and it's normal wear and tear. It shouldn't've failed so early but it does. I just had to replace the front shocks and axle boots on my Jeep, I'm lucky they managed for as long as they did. I haven't been so lucky with other things.

Good luck man.

It's basically, the dealer doesn't charge you for the repair and they pay for it. Fuel pump replacement must be a lot of money..you should try to get the dealer to cover that. Hope everything works out!

Had the same problem with the same three parts as the solution. Went to an independent to purchase all three. Total cost to remove and replace the fuel filter and pump was $908.17. The total cost to remove, replace, and reprogram the battery was $179.44. Final total was $1087.61.

Battery replaced at 68,632 miles.
Fuel filter & pump at 69,508 miles.

Ouch! This is definitely an argument for getting an extended warranty for these cars IF you plan to keep them longer. The cost of this repair almost cost as much as the ext. warranty.

My SA told me that my extended maintenance plan or CPO warranty wont cover battery replacements. Can anyone confirm?

I thought the fuel pump was covered under an extended warranty? Is that only to original owners?

yeah it is always a good idea to get the ext warranty. i think the battery is the only thing that isnt covered with the warranty, but you might wanna double check.

after fixing my car the RPM keeps bouncing around when it is started. its like it wants to drive although im not pressing the gas. anyone knows why the RPM keeps bouncing?

Just talked to my SA today. He said battery is a wear/tear item, and is not covered by extended warranty or maintenance program.

should've got the part numbers, purchased them yourself, and brought it to a 3rd party shop. i would never buy anything from BMW... unless that was my last resort. I asked for a quote for a passenger side mirror and they said 900$ just for parts, i got them online for like 160$.... Big difference.
