Radar cruise 10second auto start

Sorry if this has been covered before. Could not find it in my search.

I have radar cruise and in stop start traffic it's annoying that you need tap a button or blip the throttle to move on when the car in front moves off. At the moment I think it's like 2 or 3 seconds after being stopped you need manually ask the car to move off again.

Is there any way to code this to 15 seconds or 30 seconds so like being stopped at traffic lights you need manually tell the car to proceed. But stop / go traffic where you only stop for 5 or 6 seconds it's a pain.

Thanks in advance.

I believe that all adaptive cruise controls limit automatic restarts to less than five seconds. I don't believe you can code it as you have requested.

I think the restart function can be dangerous. Pull into a four way stop, for example, and when the car in front of you pulls out, suddenly you have no one in front of you and the car can start up again even though you are now fourth in place. So limiting it to a couple of seconds helps prevent that.

I agree with the safety factor of forcing a manual restart, however you still should remain alert when driving and using cruise cruise control should be no different.

Having said that in freeway stop start traffic it makes cruise useless as cars stop for 5 or 6 seconds, roll forward 1 or 2 car length and stop again. For about 30 minutes a night along one section of road on my commute home. Ironically the car is happy for me not to touch the steering wheel during this time as I never travel any more than 10 or 20 meters before stopping again for 10 seconds or so.

The LCI is likely to have automatic restart as is done on the new 7 and 3 series. It basically uses an IR camera to track eye position to ensure the user is looking at the road before resuming automatically due to the safety issue.

I don't think the current implementation all that problematic though. A light tap of the gas and it resumes just as it did before, including slowing down and stopping, so it is no where near as exhausting as doing the stop and go manually.

I agree. not a lot of difficulty getting it started again. To me, this is like the automatic lane change -- when I get to the point that I need the car to change lanes for me I will change to Uber or Lyft.

It's not simply 2-3 seconds. It depends on the road of traffic situation you are in. Under certain conditions it'll restart and move again up to 30 seconds.

Not mine. maybe different in Australia. Always just a few seconds. You see the little green set speed indicator go out in the dash. If the car in front I've away you get the little animation telling you the car in front has moved but I just at there till I tell the car to move
