Is there any way to reset the normal service and/or oil service indicators ourselves?

Anyone done that here?

Interesting....I accidentally reset mine and now I cannot get BMW to do the service because it shows that the service is still a fair way from due....

There should be videos on youtube that shows how it's done. It usually involves a press & hold of the trip odometer button to bring up the CBS services...(this will also bring up the hidden OBC/cluster Tests too...so keep "pressing & holding" until you get which one you're looking to do). With a series of button presses...you should be able to scroll through the CBS services and check if a "RESET?" is possible...if it is, then more button presses should do the trick.

But if you're not careful...you can do what was mentioned above...reset them when you didn't want to...so when you see "RESET Possible"...be careful how to press the button. You may want to skip to the next CBS service and not reset.

Also, on the G series BMW...the "ready" mode may be slightly different...do a check/search. The F series just requires one press of the START button (without HOLDING the brake pedal). The G series sometimes requires something like multiple presses of the START button to get in the "ready" mode. Hopefully a G series owner will chime in for a better explanation/clarification.

Correct. In order to get into "diagnostic" mode on the Gxx chassis cars, you have to successively press the "start" button three times within a second or so without your foot on the brake. It should give you confirmation of it going into "diagnostic" mode.

To reset the CBS, start the car into "diagnostic" mode (explained above) and then press and hold the odometer reset button (bottom left of the cluster). From there you can scroll through the different options by pressing the odometer reset button. Once you get to the service you want to reset and it says "reset possible", press and hold down the odometer reset button until it says "reset?". To confirm the reset, press and hold down the odometer reset button one last time and it should say "reset in progress" and then once it is done will confirm with "reset successful". Here's a YouTube video I found...

I actually saw that video before I posted but it doesn't work on my M550. I can get to the secret menu but it says nothing about resetting any services.

I believe that video may only apply to those who do not have the full digital dash. I do not believe there is any way to reset it yourself if you have the full digital dash.

I think you may be giving up to easy. Remember in my quote (see an excerpt below)...I mentioned that attempting to go into the CBS mode...you may also initiate the hidden cluster test menu? You've just revealed that you did...which a lot of owners have done in their attempt to get to the CBS mode.

Make another attempt realizing that both modes are initiated the same way. You may need to keep pressing & holding the button to get past the hidden test mode.

@ Frozen Fractels...thanks for the confirmation as to the "ready state" for the G chassis models that requires THREE presses of the START button.

Tried getting in yesterday on my 2017 540XI. Took a couple of tries, but it works. Trick is you have to get into the accessory mode by pushing the start/stop button. I was just hitting it lightly and getting into pre-start. I was trying to reset the status check in "my vehicle" for rear pads that said in 2,000 miles. Just had come back from the dealer and he said they were fine. Screen said I could reset and I did, but it didn't take. Thinking I may have to wait until it starts showing up on my cluster

...great! Thanks for posting back that you got it to work. Did you need to press & hold longer? Or was it something else?

Honestly, I just kept pressing the ignition on and off and pressing the odometer button. It took several times before it got to the reset screen so I'm not even sure how I did it.

I'm at 28,600.00. The notice came up under vehicle check in the I-Drive. Check for rear pads was a green OK, but if you click on it it says in 2,000 miles. Again. brake pads checked out to be OK, so I'm guessing it's somehow programed after a certain number of miles.

My car was also due for a brake flush when I had the oil changed. Probably due on yours if you haven't had it done. Could be the reason why your brakes feel weak.

Brake fluid flushes are a joke unless you've got upwards of 100k miles.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, absorbing moisture from the air. As the fluid in certain parts of the system gets very hot, the moisture can turn to vapour . Vapour compresses easily compared to brake fluid. Thus the pedal feels spongy and in the worst cases affects braking distance.

Never mind the corrosion caused by the moisture which fresh fluid prevents. My intervals are 3 years and it's about £50 included in the service pack.
