Much of it is my lab environment. I'm only as good as what I know with my job. So I'm constantly playing with new technology. I have a virtualized environment with a bunch of virtual servers doing various applications. There's other stuff I do with my environment that'll blow your mind. Such as I'm away from home right now for work. I'm in my hotel room connected into one of my home's WiFi SSIDs through the hotel's guest WiFi system. Let that sink in for a moment on what is happening and what I'm doing.

Will do! Had it going in just a few minutes. Ordered from CCTV Camera China and came in with no issues. Now that it's running fine in my office, I will be mounting it in my garage over the next few days when I get some time.

I also need recommendations. I am looking for something decent: 1 for home (must have motion sensor and wifi) and 1 for balcony (must have maybe 50 meters range on IR and wifi) to monitor my car on the parking lot from 4th floor. I dont need super clean images, just want to see if and who enters my condo and touches my car. I want to record 3 weeks to my full-time running PC or have builtin storage option, as well as alerts and live view via Android phone. So i dont need 1080p or even 720p maybe....

Will they both be inside, or outside? If inside, I'd recommend the Hikvision DS-2CD2432F-IW. You can find a review here: http://www.networkcameracritic.com/?p=2236

I think the IR range is 30 meters, but it does have Wifi. All cameras these days will be 1080p or more. As far as recording is concerned, it'll record as much as you have available in hard drive space. You can use the software it comes with, or buy something like Blue Iris, XProtect, Sighthound, Exacq, etc. The Hikvision app is actually very slick for the iPhone, have not tried the Android version. The cameras will have dual streams, and the highest resolution one will be used for recording/PC. The secondary stream is what you'll get on your mobile devices.

I would recommend the HIkvision DS-2CD2132F-IS dome or the Hikvision DS-2CD2032 bullet cameras for outside use. Then use the one I recommend above for inside use. Since it's Wifi, you can place it all over the house pretty easily. The other two will be permanently mounted.

did you order from www.aliexpress.com ?

Just remembered that I have account at local ADI store, will check prices with them too. My total came out to $235 at "CCTV Camera China"... DS-2CD2432F-IW + DS-2CD2132F-IWS + DS-1258ZJ wall-mount, I assume need 2 12v power supplies from Home Depot as well

I am using foscams, the older models were pretty horrible, but the newer models are really good. Using tiny cam pro on android phone and watch to view them. And using IP camera viewer on the PC.

I did, and I ordered them from CCTV Camera China also. Takes about nine days for it to get here from China, not bad considering it's free shipping.

You don't need the power supplies as you'll likely use a PoE switch, which will power the cameras.

I wouldn't use the DS-2CD2432F-IW in an outdoor situation even if the camera is going to be protected from rain. This camera has vents which the creepy crawly type critters can enter into the camera. I have one of these cameras in my garage but for the most part there shouldn't be any bugs crawling into it. You really need a IP66 (fully sealed and weather proof) camera for outdoor use.

As P1et stated, these cameras have the option of being powered through an Ethernet connection via a PoE switch. But you can run the cameras via an 12V AC adapter. I have one of the DS-2CD2432F-IW running on an AC adapter for a couple of reasons. First, the camera is acting as my baby cam. In my daughter's room, the Ethernet drop is already being used by another device. So I'm running this camera in wireless mode. The second reason is because the camera is running in wireless mode, I have a lot of flexibility in placement of the camera. For a few months after bringing my daughter home from the hospital, we had her in our bedroom. There were times we would put her to sleep and would position this camera on top of the fireplace mantel so we could keep an eye on her.

I would also use an AC adapter to test the IP cameras especially the outdoor ones before going through the trouble of testing them outdoors.

An alternative is to use an inline PoE injector. A PoE injector is just a box that is inserted between an Ethernet jack or switch and the IP camera. The PoE injector is then plugged into a wall power outlet.

Well, unless you choose to go Wifi, you will need an ethernet cable either way, whether you run PoE or not.

Yeah, I have to go Wifi.

PS. local ADI said might price match Aliexpress store so might buy there instead. Their current prices are about $50 markup on each.

That's impressive. Will you still get the three year warranty that most US sellers provide?

The US models are twice as expensive as the ones from China. That means that one of your cameras could break after the first year, and with you buying a second (newer model, probably) you'll still be breaking even.

At this price, they are disposable.

Yeah they started giving me shit in store how its probably a copycat and not the real Hikvision

Their price is still good, about $50 more for each camera. I could probably get them down even more closer to Amazon pricing but didnt want to argue
