my guess given the hardware is all thefe is that an update to the latest istep would probably enable it , perhaps a question to email bmw uk technical would be worth a try.

I would be surprised if this feature could not be activated through a sw update for cars built before week 27, because it was already mentioned in all documentation, by car dealers, etc. Also this présentation video was published few month ago already. All the hardware must be already there too.

Well I can confirm that lane assistant IS enabled.
I tried it on the way home from the dealers after picking up. I will write a very detailed review on the 540i shortly but now, yes it's present and working. |

AP, so you got it to change lanes by using the turn signal?
Just to confirm. Ohh. And how did your lane keeping behave? Stable in the lane or sometimes being "drunk"? |

Thanks. Hopefully mine can get better with a sw update then...
Mine wanders quite a bit. Sometimes it even cross the lane markings enough for the lane departure warning to kick in which is kind of funny. The two systems are clearly not in synch... |

I don't think I'll end up using it for real. The move over to the other lane was perhaps a tad quicker than I would have done myself.
I can see the advantage of these systems is really where there is mundane driving. You can turn off when you want have fun yourself. this is what I like about BMW, all these systems can be tuned off and overridden, they are not mandatory. (You obviously don't have to order it in the first place!) Still have plenty to learn, only covered 37 miles on it so far. (my display key and remote service reminding me of that!) Yes I would pester your dealer to see if you can get the latest istep software put on which I would like to think will enable this. |

How long will the car hold at a stop and automatically resume before having to press the accelerator or resume button? Some folks say 3 seconds. Others say 30.

AP, I've driven my G31 close to 2500 miles in 6 weeks. ~80% very mundane highway/interstate type roads with very light or practically no traffic. In those situations, these kind of systems are great. I've tested Teslas system in the past and it also has its flaws but it stats stable in the middle if the lane. My bmw, not so much this far...

That's plausible .It was in either Jalopnik or a New Zealand site whose name escapes my mind that mentioned 30 seconds

So, a SW update by the local dealer likely will not open this functionality. |

are you sure it was the latest istep version or perhaps it was what was on there previously?
i am sure if you ask the engineers they can tell you but i doubt they would volunteer this info otherwise. otherwise sounds like a question for technical support. |

Just got my 550xdrive (1 week ago) with Driver Assistant Plus and Parking Assistant Plus.
Active lane changing is not working, no navigation, no SLI, no wireless charging. Local dealer said that's because of Kazakhstan. Any thoughts? |
