When I set the center vents to full cold in the summer it did nothing, so I don't expect this to do much either. Main reason: The front center vents suck, they barely move any air at all. *taking the car in next week - I will post back once they have a look at the HVAC / Heat Issue. Thanks everyone. I also find the central vents do not push as much air as my previous cars - irrespective of setting.
Whereas I usually like a gentle breeze past my face, my wife used to turn the vents in completely the other direction as she doesn't like such a draft. In the G30, she doesn't feel a thing and leaves the vents in whatever position input I last set them to... |

The center vents definitely do not push as much air as what I experienced in my F30, but I will say closing the rear passenger vents helps a bit. The iDrive based temp adjustment is definitely noticeable for me though; more often than not I make a slight adjustment to it as opposed to modifying my temp (usually 73-74). Annoying that they made it more complicated by embedding it into iDrive [only].

In the middle of the HVAC control panel is a button labeled "menu", push that and it brings you directly to the screen that lets you adjust the drivers and passenger dash vents.

If your vent settings are set (and locked) all the way to Red and your Auto fan speed is at least in the middle setting and your temps are set at 70 or above and you're not getting enough heat you definitely have an HVAC issue. In my car with the center vents set on full red and the Auto fan speed in the middle setting after 10 minutes I have to turn it down to 66 from 70 from a cold start on a 5 degree morning.

"make sure the fan speed when set to Auto is at least on the middle setting. I think there are 5 fan settings available when on Auto and when the temps are extreme you need to be at least on 3 which is the one in the middle. "
This. My bad: as I have been driving BMWs since 1999, I thought I knew how the ac worked... If on 'auto' then the fan speed would vary as necessary to get to, and then maintain, the required temp. On reading this in the above post, I had a play and realised why I was not getting the 'normal' experience of slowly increasing fan speed which would then settle down: there are five different 'auto' levels and mine was set to minimum. Increasing it makes all the difference... Still playing, but this definitely works for me! Kudos to BGT3 for pointing out. |

Yes the fan speed when on auto defines the maximum airflow possible (but still controlled automatically)
Guess if you want it to behave like have systems of old, set it to 5. Why bmw did this (on f10 as well) I don't know as it's not intuitive. |

That warm/cold setting in the idrive menu helped me out last winter, without turning that up, together with the rear passenger warm/cold air mix, it was too cold in the car.
