I just called BMW Genius. My car has been released to carrier. So that was a 36-48 hour turnaround through customs and the VPC. Unfortunately, it's not supposed to get a ride up I-5 until Wednesday. So close. Yet so far away.
Well the M Sport Booster Seats are in fact what held up the production of the car. The leather was on back-order so they had to go with cloth. My kids will have to suffer - oh well, suck it up, buttercup!

I will certainly write more about DHP. Everyone shares their opinion on this one just like the B&W..... I think past bad experiences shape current opinions. Doesn't seem that floaty to me and I had a 2004 M3 with Motons, so I can be a suspension snob .... Maybe old age is sitting in?

Remember that BMW Genius was telling me a week and the car arrived in half the time. Maybe you will get you car late Monday afternoon. Then we can cannonball it and I'll take your doors for real. Or we could just swap doors for a really cool two tone look. What sayth you?

You are welcome. I am really just returning the favor to those whom have done the same before me. I always use forums to learn from others. As I think I stated in the beginning, I thought I would share my journey to document current build and transport times. Almost everyone seems pretty cool on this forum, so no complaints from me. I like cars and I like to hang out with car guys. I don't really like to hang out with the people who are in it for show or for only the social. Or people who get real serious about the fastest car, because hey there is always someone with more money than you.

Good luck with your car. Maybe you will have your car by Monday afternoon too. From which dealership did you buy? I come down to ATL every so often to visit a customer in the Suwanee area. Maybe I'll see you around.

I got the B&W too. When I listened to a 7-series with the B&W and compared it to the H&K it was an obvious improvement. Driving is about the only time I get a chance to listen to music. So, for me, the ~$3.5K price tag was a no brainer. But I'm also the type of person who disassembles audio equipment to put higher quality capacitors in the power supply...

Great plan on the door swap. But why stop there? I say we also swap bonnet and trunk lids. And just to make sure it's truly unique, the front passenger seat (mine has black nappa interior)!

Do you have Sonos? I got the Play 5 for Christmas and my in-house listening has gone way up. Reminds me of my youth ... Anyway, yes the car is a time for me to listed to music loudly and without worry about lyrics, if you know what I mean. By the way I studied Electrical Engineering and did engineering work for nearly 20 years, so I get the capacitor comment.

Well now you are really pushing it to swap interiors!! I guess if the doors are off, interior will be easier to swap. Why stop there, how about using some parts out of an E39?

Serioously, this car is about perfect. It rotates so fast with the DHP. It reminds me of my RX-7 and a freak-out trick I used to play on unsuspecting passengers. I would be stopped at a light or stop sigh and turning left. I would then rev up the engine to around 3000 rpms, slip the clutch, turn the steering wheel and fully let the clutch out the car would fishtail around as I counter steered. People would flip because they had never felt the rear end of a car moving first!! Well I can do that with ease in the M550i - wow!!!

Do you get any unusual feeling about the rear wheel steering? Does the car nose dive excessively when you brake?

I have not yet experienced any wierd feelings that were not intentional! Seriously I am working up my aggressive turns still so I can't comment fully. I have not experienced any nose dive during braking or excessive squat under acceleration. Maybe they fixed that compared to older generations?

I haven't demo'd a Sonos. If I get a chance I sure will. My other main listening is at work. I've got a headphone rig that I have, among other things, replaced some capacitors. Glad to hear somebody else can understand my disease...

I dunno...swapping stuff from other model years may destabilize the space-time continuum and open a Einstein-Rosen bridge to a parallel universe...I don't like the downside risk. Let's stick with the G30 swaps...

My car made it to the dealership today. So that was a few days ahead of schedule. Of course, owing to logistics, I'll have to wait until tomorrow to pick it up. One more day...

Glad to hear the DHP is worth it...it was the one option I went back and forth on and ultimately went against. My reasoning was that DHP is a complicated system and I intend to keep the car for a while. So, hopefully, my non-DHP car has a little bit lower maintenance cost over time.

Argh....so boat was supposed to dock today....but Marinetraffic.com hasn't updated the location since February 22 and it obviously hasn't docked or else it would be updated as such. Hopefully it didn't sink!

I called BMWGenius and they said it was due in Friday....so at this point, who knows.

Mine got to VPC today and Genius line told me to expect it to be at the dealer on Monday. I have called my SA to expect me to stalk their dealership on Monday. LOL
My boat, Dover Highway, was perfectly on schedule on every leg of its trip.

Good stuff.....looks like our ship was just found again near Virginia and should dock tomorrow. Hoping it clears VPC and gets on a truck by the end of the weekend....

My car was supposed to be delivered to the dealer today but it wasn’t. I called Genius and they said that there is a delay which pushed dealership delivery to Friday. I may not pick it up until next week anyway because I got a $1000 test drive coupon offer by email which might not apply but I will certainly try to use it.

I have to test drive the x2 on Friday and hopefully have the coupon on Monday. The coupon excludes orders cars but I heard that some people have been able to use them on ordered cars.

Yep, waiting here, too.

Ship was supposed to be here the 27th....that changed to 28th...then it basically had to sit around Washington DC for 2 days. I think it was due to the winds in Baltimore. It didn't dock until Sunday. I was told it should be clearing VPC tomorrow and on a truck Thursday for arrival Sunday in Milwaukee. I assume I should be seeing it this time next week.....but who knows.

I was just told that I can't use the coupon, so I will take immediate delivery of the car if it comes in this weekend.

I’m on the same boat as you. Except mine won’t be shipped until the port installed m performance goes on. Then off to Chicago.

Mine is finally here. My SA called me as soon as the truck arrived and coincidentally I was driving on the highway near them and was able to detour and see it get off the truck. I was able to sit in it and confirm that it was correctly optioned. I’ll update tomorrow night after picking it up.

Here are some pictures at its most virgin state.

My lease is up middle of July on 550. I know I can extend until I get the car (as long as I have order number) but if I want to get m550 around same time, is the typical wait from ordering to delivery 2 months? I am in Chicago.
Also, is there anything I need to know related to dealer having allocation and if this allocation for a particular timeframe or anything related to that.
Thanks for the advice

Looks great! Congrats. It that black nappa or mocha nappa leather you went with? Hard to tell in the direct sunlight.

Allocation is everything... For me it was 5 1/2 weeks from production date to delivery (in the US). I was lucky and my usual dealer had an allocation that was going to lock in 2 days with a production date 2 weeks out, so I ordered on 1/25 and delivery is slated for 3/15. Other dealers I spoke with said their earliest unused allocation slot was 1-2 months out. You might shop around to find the earliest available slot (and best price)...
