BMW files to trademark M335, M650 and M750

Quote:
BMW could have more M-badged products on the way, with the German automaker filing to reserve ‘M335’, ‘M650’ and ‘M750’ with the United States Patent and Trademark Office last week.

The filings for M650 and M750 likely signal the arrival of performance-focused versions of both the 6 Series and 7 Series. The German automaker debuted the M850i xDrive at Le Mans this month, which is powered by a 523 hp version of its 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8. The M850i xDrive also features the automaker’s eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and, obviously, its xDrive all-wheel-drive system. We’re expecting a similar setup to appear in the M650 and M750, if they are indeed real products that BMW intends on putting into production.

BMW may be looking at an ‘M’ lineup of products for the 7 Series, with the automaker filing to reserve the ‘M7’ badge earlier this year as well. The M760Li was also launched for 2017, which features a 600 hp twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter V12 engine.

As for the M335, it likely signals the arrival of a new 3 Series model variant that would slot in beneath the M3 in the automaker’s portfolio. We’re expecting the M335 to arrive alongside the new 2019 3 Series, codenamed ‘G20’. Rumors point to the new 3 Series making its debut at the Paris Motor Show this fall, so we may not have to wait too much longer to see the so-called ‘M335′.

BMW may be looking to introduce more of these M-badged products as a response to Mercedes-Benz’s lesser ’43’ badged performance models, which have helped it to expand the AMG brand massively and offer more mainstream products beyond the high-performance ’63’ models. Audi employs a similar two-tier system with ‘RS’ and ‘S’ badged models, though to a much lesser extent.

Complete nonsense. There will be a 330i and, a few months later, an M340i. They probably just registered "M335" so that other manufacturers cannot use that name since it would sound too much like a BMW product. I should add that there will be both an M135i (not in US) and M235i, but no M335i is planned, and likely never will be.

Regarding M650, that would be for a V8 powered M650i GT model if they choose to offer one. There was a V8 powered 550i GT predecessor so it is possible there may be new one at some point if demand is there. Theoretically, they could also do an M650d as well, but that would not be for US sale so a trademark in the US wouldn't be necessary.

I would not expect an M750i until (unless) the M760i is no more. That could happen eventually but not until next generation at the earliest.
