Auctions are sketchy to begin with even art.

At the time of that auction Seinfeld had 46 Porsches. He took 17 of them to Amelia Island to thin the herd, and this car was one of them. That auction brought well over $22 million for those 17 cars.
Also, that was a Gooding auction which means every one of those cars was vetted.
Anybody think Seinfeld needs the money to the extent that he would knowingly commit fraud? Getting caught in such a stupid scheme would have wrecked the value of his remaining collection.

I call BS.... not on the OP mind you, but on the Daily Mail who should know better.

Auctions don't guarantee provenance. Read the terms that an auction house uses to minimize their responsibility on authenticity.
The present car owner probably has to go after Seinfeld in this manner because the auction house recuses itself from guaranteeing authenticity. And Seinfeld's lawyer is probably correct that Seinfeld is not legally obligated to buy-back.

From original Porsche batch to latter upgrade by factory with left over parts. I wouldn't call b.s. on this. And it seems the car sold at a low bid price.

From there Gooding Auction House, this is their disclaimer: " All written and oral descriptions of the Vehicles or related information, including, but not limited to, descriptions in any catalogue or other Auction-related materials, postings, announcements, press releases, advertisements, any bill of sale or invoice, and any statements or affirmations made by or on behalf of Gooding prior to or at the Auction, including, without limitation, any reference to a Vehicle as being a particular model, make, or type or the rarity or uniqueness or provenance thereof, are only statements of opinion and not statements of fact and do not, and shall not under any circumstances be deemed to, create or constitute representations or warranties of any kind by Gooding or the Seller. Each bidder and Buyer hereby acknowledges and agrees that they are not entitled to rely, and they each agree not to rely, upon any of such descriptions, statements, affirmations, information or materials for any purpose, and that none of the foregoing are a part of the basis of the bargain of the purchase and sale of any Vehicle nor do or shall any of the foregoing supersede or modify any of the General Conditions "

well, the main point of my post is buyers' allegation that Seinfeld "intentionally misrepresented the authenticity" of the car in question.
why on earth would he do that?
fraud?
is it possible that anyone seriously believes that Seinfeld needs the money?

The more I think about this, there must be more to the story. I don't think Seinfeld would allow his people that handle these things to do anything that wasn't a credit to the antique car trade.

By claiming intentional misrepresentation, the buyer's attorney is opening the door to sue for punitive damages, not just the value of the vehicle. It's a bargaining chip that will be used in settlement negotiations. "If we win, you'll have to pay us more than you got for the car."

For Seinfeld to have done this intentionally he'd have to be a psychopath because it isn't about the money.

Said in the article that Seinfeld and his lawyer were trying to figure out what happened to make it right, and the buyer decided to file a lawsuit instead of responding?

This story is nothing compared to what George went thru when he thought he bought Jon Voight’s LeBaron convertible. Devastating...

You'd think Seinfeld himself would've vetted the provenance of such a rare car when he bought it.

I don't see how he would intentionally sell a fake car. Just because he's accused of it doesn't mean it's true.

Hmm, might have been a misunderstanding? Or, this might even be another one of those satire acts.

Love it hahaha...In all seriousness though, back when Jerry’s Porsche was built it was all pencil and paper, not all this computer crap doing the work. Maybe, just maybe if the new owner digs around inside the car he ll find a pencil one of the engineers was using. It’s a long shot, and an ever larger one if that pencil has teeth marks on it. You know where this is going right? Ehhhh forget it. Never happen.

i always say seinfeld is my favorite show because larry and jerry somehow managed to cram in every experience of life into a show about "nothing"....like its 100% accurate in so many life situations and will continue on forever.

Jon Voight bit me.....what?....HE BIT ME JERRY
