G30 Loses CR Reliability Rating
Anyone else see that the 5 Series lost its reliability rating?

I have to agree with CR. 1st 6 months were a horror show. 1)needed new steering column 2)needed new head unit 3)passenger warning light 4)worst ac ever software somewhat fixed it 5)crackling dash.
Now car is great, knock on wood. Hasn't been in shop for 1.5 years except oil change. if rating car initially, 3 out of 10. |

Interesting, because J.D. Power just called the 5 series best in class (Midsize Premium Car).

I think it depends on what you consider reliability means. I think CR rates things like infotainment bugs equal to things like motor not working. So I'd take it with a grain of salt.
With that said I've taken my car in 4 times in the last year for a bunch of stuff. Nothing kept the car from going but annoying nonetheless.

This isn't to say G30 isn't true rather that these ratings are meaningless unless they are broken down. Btw, I find it irritating that BMW refuses to comment when everyone else has explained how they are responding to the issues raised by consumers. |

And CR ratings are a joke. These clowns recommended Teslas for a long time and now praise Kia/Hyundai products which are manufactured by one of the scummiest automakers on the face of the earth...

I believe that most helpful is to provide your build date and manufacturing plant when reporting an issue. Some problems can be identified as part of a manufacturing batch or build range. US market 5-Series vehicles are either manufactured at the BMW Group Dingolfing plant in Germany or at the Magna Styer (Under contract from BMW) plant in Graz, Austria.

My 2018 540 has been the most reliable vehicle I’ve owned, and I’ve had a lot of them. Zero problems.
Wish I could say the same about my 2019 X5.... |

Other than an occasional gremlin (such as the steering wheel not descending again to the correct position after I enter the car and turn it on), my loaded 530e (I only say loaded as that means it has all the electronic goodies/nannies to go wrong) has been rock solid for its first 14 months.
I did get a 2018 model (built in November of 2017). I think year two of a new model is a good time to get one as the company has had a year to determine and fix any material problems. |

Ultimately it's not a good look for any company to ignore customers. By refusing to comment, that's exactly what they are doing. |

Yes, iDrive 7 is a mess right now. But, other bugs too—things disappearing from the digital dash and worst of all, steering that feels totally disconnected when it is very cold. I’m told that too is a software problem and a fix is coming...but we’ve had the car since November with no fixes yet. |

Tesla has to save face and say they are fixing the problems when the reality is that they have been well aware of their QC issues but really have done nothing about them until they publicly got egged in the face. Stories abound in message boards of Tesla owners fighting the company to get their defective cars properly repaired or replaced. To me personally those brands that said something to the effect that they are fixing the problems is equally meaningless and a PR technique (From the mouth out) just to save face. Truth is, they don't care until the dirty laundry is brought up in the open for all to see. Truth is, the vast majority of automakers do everything they can to swipe known issues under the rug to keep management boards and investors happy. The car industry got themselves into the proverbial rabbit hole when computer screens and heavy reliance on electronics were introduced to remain competitive and meet growing consumer demand. A lot of would be buyers would not look at car without an infotainment system in the same way power windows and power locks are expected even on the cheapest new car sold today
