M550i brake specifications?
I'm having difficulty finding the specs on the brakes like the rotor size.

M Performance are Front 395x36 Rear 370x24
4-piston front and 2-piston rear. EDIT: Other sources have the front at 374x36 and rear 345x24.

I think you have M Sport and not Performance but if your thinking of switching to Performance here is a attachment about installing M Performance brakes in a G30.

So the OEM parts have the following specs

If you upgrade from the bone stock setup (34 33 6 881 095 Master Cylinder & 34 33 6 874 524 Brake Booster) to the bigger diameter discs and multi-piston sport brakes then you'll have more pedal travel and a "spongier" feel. You don't HAVE to upgrade the master cylinder/brake booster (if you upgrade one you HAVE to upgrade the other) as I'm fairly certain you'll be able to still apply enough pressure with the travel that exists to overwhelm your tire's grip limits. The "downside" of the smaller master cylinder & weaker brake booster is the spongier feel of the pedal as you'll need more travel in the pedal to move the pads a given distance. If you can still lock the wheels (i.e activate ABS) it's purely a "feel" thing and you won't get any performance benefit from the changeover. |
