You are correct, I have 40% on sides and windshield is 70% when I get it done. I prefer lighter tint, 20% is too dark for me at night, also I don't believe Chrystalline comes in anything darker than 40%.

Looks like Crystalline comes in 20%, but nothing darker.

Mind sharing where you got it done?
http://instagram.com/wctintshop

They're in NY. They're certified 3M, xpel, etc installers. I've never paid over $200 to tint a car. Idk where you people go. It's computer cut which I prefer.

You're in Philly? I've never seen any M2s here.
Thanks! Yeah, Philly. I've run into about 4 others. You should check out Cars and Coffee sometime.

@nd2002 Where did you have your M2 done, and how much was it?
Had it done at Northwest Auto Salon in Lynnwood. They stand by their work (replaced my entire front end once when I was in for a headlight/fender replacement because i had misremembered the film name--just so I wouldn't have 2 types of film) and have always done a great job.

Not the cheapest in the area, I had a new car detail, full frontal PPF, along with numerous other areas, tint and ceramic coating applied to the entire vehicle for about $7k IIRC.

I'm guessing drinking / some other sort of "partying"...

Non-metallic tint should not affect a radar detector. However, anything that is designed to reflect / reject infrared will affect an RD's ability to "see" LIDAR.

Window-mounted detectors are basically pointless against LIDAR anyway, so IMO this isn't a major loss. If your local LEOs do a lot of LIDAR work, you need grille-mounted jammers to stand a chance. LIDAR detection is basically just ticket detection, unless you get incredibly lucky and catch scatter from another car being targeted. (This is pretty rare due to the way light works...)

I know this is an old post, but the legal limit in Texas is actually 25%. You can also do the top of the windshield applied above the AS-1 line at 25% or anywhere on the windshield with a clear film.

Got it.

I think I was just going by what the dealer told me, if I remember correctly - I knew I didn't want something too dark, and the 30% works for me, but glad to know I could go darker if I wanted.

You can probably get away with 20%, but you run the risk of not passing state inspection if they put a meter up to your window like they're supposed to. In that scenario always go to BMW dealership to get your car inspected. No problem.

I'm about to get my new car done this week. I had 35% on my X6, but I always felt like it wasn't dark enough. I'm probably going with 3M Crystalline 20% this time. At least all of the windows will look even since there's no privacy glass on my M550ix.

I used Suntek CIR carbon ceramic film. Wanted to make sure I minimized heat gain (Arizona after all) without impacting on all the sensors, etc. I also have the nappa upholstery with the leather dash so I wanted to make sure that I minimized sun damage to the leather as well.

I ended up going with LLumar Stratos which is supposed to be their newest and best film. It's a dual layered film with 99.5 UV rejection. It cost me $650 for four side windows and back. I did 50% all around since I wanted to stay legal in VA and all my back windows have sunshades built in. VA only allows 50% on front sides and 35% and back and back sides. Nothing on windscreen. Have to protect Merino leather from UV but can't protect leather dash. 😔

I saw that and it looked interesting. I read in one of the post that the tints don't mess up the HUD display but then I thought about the guys each year that scrape the old inspection stickers off with a razor blade.

VA has yearly vehicle safety inspection stickers they stick on the front windshield each year. We also have front plates. Can't win 😀

Man this government is too big and out of control. Can't fart without an inspection or tax. Need some downsizing. As of now in Nevada, we have yearly smog and rear plate only(front optional).

I'm getting my tint installed on my new 2019 M550ix and went with 3M Crystalline window tint as I'm writing this. The sides and back windows will have 20% (not legal in Texas), the windshield will have 70%, and the sunroof will have 40%. It's not cheap, but it looks great so far! This will be immensely helpful during the summer with Texas heat.
