I spent a few hours installing a set of M1 M2 Drive Mode Buttons on the Steering Wheel and installed a set of Carbon Fibre Shift Paddles while I was at it, looks great, works really well;

I can't tell from the video, what do the buttons actually do? Just allow you to cycle between Eco+, Comfort, and Sport modes?

That's right, it cycles through the drive mode across Comfort, Eco, Sport/Sport+/Sport Indv, etc

I picked up this kit as well, but the M1 M2 buttons were not put together. I had to put the chips in and try to align everything. Of course they don't align right and when I contacted the company they said I needed coding. I know this is BS because everyone that is installing this is plug and play.

I need to fiddle with it when I get a chance.

Where did you get your kit?

The only places I've seen them is AliExpress. There is a seller on eBay but his prices are $100-$150 over average.

Just searched the hell out of Ali and can't seem to find the "kit". Even though you had issues with your kit and seller, got a link so I know what I am looking at in terms of parts?

Yes I got my kits from eBay - I ended up ordering 2 but am going to sell one for cost which was $400USD.

Here you go Joe. This is not the seller I got my kit from. I paid $200 shipped for my kit, I'm thinking this is why I have to fiddle with it more. You get what you pay for I guess.

Yes just a heads up this is a different version to the one I've installed in the video and have for sale in the classifieds.

Also the $200 kits don't seem to include the main control unit to switch the drive modes, they appear to just be cosmetic M1/M2 buttons that don't actually function?

From all of the posts and research I have found, it does not appear so. It will bring up the last used Sport mode, just like pushing the button once. I could be wrong.


Question for the folks who have done this. Is there anyway to code to unlock these menus in iDrive to custom configure the buttons?

Unfortunately that unit seems to only work with the 2019 G series with the older style centre console arrangement and gear shift, etc BMW. Made hardware updates shortly after when they went with the newer interior refresh.

I opened up the buttons today and was able to find the issue. There is a little rubber piece that was backwards. I flipped it around and now everything works as it should.

The kit that I would get if I decide to move forward is $400 bucks and comes with OEM buttons. It's through a supplier on the G30 Facebook group. I trust him and that's the direction I would go in. Shoot me a PM if you want his contact info.
