How to get Alpina display

Hello everybody how to get Alpina display on a bmw 520da G30 M sport.
What's the best and safest obd adapter ? ( I hear v gate, Tonwon etc...
The best connection is wifi or Bluetooth?
And bimmercode is the best application to run with Android?

OBDlink MX+ with BimmerCode is what I use. No issues yet.

Yes Bimmercode is a very good and safe app, you can code the display to Alpina easily.
You can check the list of adapters on Bimmercode's website:

https://bimmercode.app/adapters/

I personally have used ENET cable + Ethernet adapter.

Be sure to buy adapters that support G series coding.

Your link is correct but so is mine. The CX is not the preferred for BimmerCode. The MX+ is. The CX was just added recently to the functional list. So I did post a correct link for what works.

The Alpina display also has a hardware requirement though. It is not just a coding solution. You must have the full digital display.

If you have that, it is super simple.

No, not wifi, it is a wired connection between car and phone.

Also like Sophisto540 said, the car needs the full digital dash in order for the Alpina coding to work.

OBDLink says the CX version is "made for BimmerCode and recommended by the BimmerCode team". Bimmercode.app lists it as fully supported. Not sure exactly what the difference between MX+ and CX is, but I bought the CX for $30 versus the MX+ for $100. The CX was super easy to set up and all the functions in Bimmercode worked perfectly for me.

Found this in another thread but it looks like the option code is 6WB.

Looks like 6WB (full digital cluster) can be retrofitted: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=03_4197

I got full digital dashboard so no problem to go with Alpina display
The cx adapter would be ok to use with bimmercode application?
And if I go with Alpina display, how to go back with factory settings in display?

The display is just one of multiple options. You can go back to stock by using a backup or just select the standard display setting. I use the ENET cable but yours will work too.

I just coded this on a buddy's X3M today since I don't have the full digital display and really wanted to check it out. He really liked it.

As I already stated in the quoted reply....The CX is new. The MX+ is older and was needed for iOS device compatibility with BimmerCode. The CX is a device with which I have no personal knowledge as I have had the MX+ for quite a while. I am speaking to the device that I have firsthand knowledge and personal experience with. Cheaper and/or expensive doesn't mean better—buy why buy a BMW to nickel and dime advice given for free?? if the CX works for you and you recommend it—awesome—, I will offer advice to my personal experience...that can be accepted or not.

If the cx do the job I will go with the cx and bimmercode app on my and roi.
The cx is through Bluetooth only.
And to go back with the standard display (factory) I need only to re plug the cx, launch bimmercode and check standard display and not Alpina?

Yes, but not full time. In my car (6WB+Navi Prof.) it pops up where the rev. counter is, when there is new directions. It can´t show the map full time.

If your car has HUD the information is showed up there instead of the instrument cluster. To get the information in the instrument cluster, the HUD must be switched off.

I got it on my g30, but have a question: is possible to maintain SPORT cluster even on confort and eco pro modes?

I'm interested in this. I came from an F31 with HUD so was used to having the speed in a reasonably sized digital display right in front of me, I'd like to have that big digital speed number in comfort mode.

Same here. No problems so far on G30. ENET cable connection has issues during coding from time to time.

Yes. And on my 2018 530e it was part of the executive package.

From what I’ve found, you loose the battery info on the 530e when coding the alpina cluster, since this is the engine/oil temperature for the non hybrid cars.

Reason that I did not even dare to try yet.
