DIY - G30 Front Bumper Grill Trim Removal
Guys, as promised, here are the DIY on how to remove it.
All you need, long flat screw driver, needle pick, and some muscle. So here are the steps. Note: Tape up with painter tape around it, to avoid scratches. Step 1: - Turn the steering wheel inward so you have access to the back of the bumper. If you are working on the driver side, then turn the steering wheel to the right and vice versa. - Locate the 2 clip (Circled in Red) from the back side of the bumper airduct, and use long flat screw driver to undo the clip. (You will need to grab on it from the front so it won't clip back by itself). Step 2: - Locate the 2 clips (Circled in Red) from the bottom of the trim, right above the fog light. For these clips, it is very hard to press in, so I uses pick to pull the trim edges downward. Step 3: - Gently pull the trim inward. Just be careful that there are 3 additional clips (Circled in Red) on the top. It may need some effort to pull them off, but shouldn't be that hard. That's how to remove the trim. Installing it back, just as easy as aligning all the clips and push inward. Good luck and feel free to PM for any question.

Thanks for this write up. I just spent about an hour or so trying to release those first two clips through the wheel access and I could not get them loose. Are you moving the clips towards the center of the car or away from the car? I've tried both ways while pulling from the front of the car and no luck getting the clips to release. I don't want to rough them up too much because I'm sure others might want them. Anyone else have any success with removing these pieces?

This is the only thing I’ve found online that explains how to remove these. I too cannot seem to get the two clips undone from inside of the wheel well. I have tried pushing inwards pretty aggressively and nothing has happened/ no clip has unsnapped. Is there some other tip to doing this?
For what it’s worth I have the Cerium front bumper trim. Not sure if it’s any harder to remove than the other pieces. The black oem trim I ordered appears to be a little more “plastic” than the cerium parts. I don’t want to damage the parts or the clips that will hold the future trim pieces in place, but I’m not seeing how these two clips become undone. I am able to press in the top two clips no problem but nothing budges since the back two are still fastened. Any help is appreciated!! Last edited by Drewbie613; 08-06-2018 at 01:56 PM.. |

So, it is a bit harder. The proper way to do it is by removing the whole bumper. That way you can undo the clips properly without breaking any. It is not hard to remove it, just time consuming.

What ended up working for me was to use a long flathead and starting with the bottom clip, applying more pressure pushing the clip OUT (towards the front of the car) while applying about half of that pressure inwards (towards the center of the car). I wrapped the tip of the screwdriver in a microfiber so it a little more gentle. This was the only way that I was able to get the clips out. I did the same for the top rear clip and then the top two were last. I appreciate the prompt response and I'm glad I didn't have to resort to taking the bumper off! |

Finally got the cirum trim off, you guys weren’t kidding about applying pressure, took a long flathead and pushed the connectors with all my might while someone was pulling & wiggling from the front. But now I’m having trouble snapping the gloss back trim in place, I’m noticing that my gloss black trim has 4 connectors rather then 3 as shown in your picture on step 3. Have attached pictures here. Seems just a guide to install it.
Based on the parts diagram, there is a hole opening for that guide to goes in. Worst case, just shave it off. That part doesn't seem to be functional other just for the guide.

That is some work, isn't it? Not direct replacement.

For sure it is some work! But not something really reluctant like undergoing several heavy modifications.
So you confirm it is only about shaving off the guide? Last edited by Soussef24; 01-02-2019 at 08:05 AM.. |

Thanks! I really like the looks of the Cerium grey trims, and in my location the M Pack comes with an odd combination of chrome kidneys and side vents, and black bumper finishers... So I'm looking to switch everything to Cerium Grey once I take delivery of the car! Salesafter.eu have nice prices, but they don't deliver here.

I would think you can buy them used as a lot of 550 owners on this forum are taking all the Cerium parts off for black replacements. Shipping might be a problem.

If you use the finisher alone, without the grille, you can keep the light. It is the grille that is incompatible with the light not the finisher... |
