Can the 530e be "tuned"?
The more I read about the G30 530e, the more I see it as a potential replacement to my F30 328i. My F30 has been modified and tuned so I'm curious if the (gas engine portion) of the 530e can be tuned or if the gas/electric powertrain is pretty much untunable in that regard.

I'd have thought so. I understand the petrol/gas engine in the 530e is the detuned version of the B48 engine as used in the "20i" engined BMWs. Don't know the specifics but I'm sure you can tune that engine to at least get part way to the higher output "30i" B48.

I am not either but I vaguely recall a post, either here on on Bimmerfest, where someone was tuning a phev -- probably a 330e. I think it was a Dinan tune and the individual was having some fault showing up.

Yep, butt dyno can confirm.
Forgot to update here but been running the JB+ for about a month at the highest setting and can definitly feel a difference. Only issue is a significant loss of power during full throttle shifts which also existed without the JB+. Not sure if anything can be done about that since we don't have the torque converter tranny. Likely intentionally done by BMW done to avoid wear. 530i tranny definitely shifts faster with its torque converter. You get the upshift burps with the 530i that we dont get on the 530e as well. |

I've been running JB+ for about 3 months now. No issues with check engine lights. Haven't even seen a decrease in MPG. It feels plenty fast. I honestly dont know if my butt dyno can tell a 30hp/40 ft/lb difference.
It's so cheap comparatively that it's a no brainer even if it makes a very tiny difference. |

All I can say obviously is that the 530e doesn't have even close to the 535d torque that I really loved. The 535d would just pull like crazy (that nice feeling you get when you get pushed in the back of your seat). It wasn't fast, but FELT fast. Yes, I'm aware this was not the comparison you wanted, but it's the most recent comparison I have based on the cars I've had. As far as the 530e (with/without), like I said, I honestly cannot tell a difference. Granted, I installed mine within 1-2 weeks of owning the car, so I didn't really have a lot of comparison time. My point is that it doesn't hurt anything (at least not for now), so for the entry point of a JB+ even if it does give minimal gains, it's still worth it. |

I've extensively coded it, added a dash cam (so I did run some wiring and tapped into fuse box). No issues whatsoever. Generally I'm very pleased with the car and MPG. I consider it an upgrade over the last gen 5 (had a 2013 and 2015 ones). If you're on the fence about ordering and you like matte wood, get it. I am glad I did and totally sets the car apart along with a very luxurious feel/look. For the most part I think I ticked off every option except Night Vision. If there is one gripe I have is electric range. I just wish it was another 5-10 miles more. Right now I get between 13-15 miles of electric. Between dropping my daughter off at school and going to the office, I'm about 5 miles short on the return trip home. If the car could get 20-25 mile range, it would be phenomenal. |

I saw on another thread something about not having a dedicated charger due to being in a townhouse/apartment.
I would look somewhere else if that's the case. I charge it 1-2x daily depending on my schedule. I'm assuming the MPG would be similar to a 530i if you didn't do that. Frankly, I'd probably go 540i if you could afford it and didn't care about MPG, HOV lanes, etc. |

I have had zero issues with the JB+ or the car itself. Everything works well, no CEL, no buzzing, no camera fails, etc. |

I just checked my displays. 320hp and 400 torque scale. Honestly if I floor it, still goes to about 250ish hp/300 torque. Like I said, I'm not sure about any discernible difference.

On the 530e, the TMAP sensor is what's circled in the first picture.
You have to pop off the plastic engine cover to access it. Then you'll find the 3-pin MAP sensor connected to the air intake pipe. |

Thanks SteveMonDragon. When I'm contacting the guys at X-PH (Extreme Powerhouse) for purchase of JB+ for my 530e, are saying that .... "This unit is not compatible per the manufacturer, if you would like to try it at your own responsibility thats your decision. I cannot give you any technical support and be responsible if anything foes wrong." Should I buy or not? If it is compatible, what if something goes wrong after installing or after a few hours/days of driving? |
