Signed a lease for 2020 m550

One of the first 2020 is mine. 525hp is nice. Loved the new virtual instrument cluster in real life however I liked the 2019 version better. Just thought that 525 hp wins over 450hp with 'better dashboard'
Carbon black with cognac....
Shopping insurance and got unpleasant surprise - family sedan costs more to ensure than my m3, a lot more. MSRP wise, m3 was 75k, M550 78k. So....

Congrats on the purchase. As you are aware however, BMW has many times underrated their engines and the 2018-19 version appear to dyno closer to 530HP... it is clearly not a 450HP car. The latest version first showing up on the M850 may likely be more that listed, but how much BMW underrated this time is still unclear. Was not a fan of the new cockpit when driving an M850 recently, but would likely grow on you,

Awesome congrats! Care to share your specs and what the terms of your lease are? I'm shopping now and know there's no lease incentives yet (except maybe loyalty)

How does it sound inside the cabin? Any louder? I'm likely going to code active sound off when I get mine but curious if the new engine is notably louder.

Thanks and send pics!

Congratulations, how does the new engine sound? Is it similar to the M850?

Driving experience in 2019 test car was a lot more fun in sport mode vs 2020. 2020 was just off the boat, like 150 miles is so not sure what to say.
My lease deal: 750/month, 3k down. MSRP 78k.
I made 7 MSD payments to lower MF and traded in my m3 to eliminate tax on the lease. I also got 5% off MSRP and 2k loyalty credit.

On 2019 lease deals are much better. You get loyalty and additional 3500 off. Plus you can potentially get better MSRP discount. But you must hurry up as these cars are flying away as dealers make deals to free up space for 2020. I mean it do not delay if you want a good deal get 2019.

On sound inside. I come from m3 with M Performance exhaust so to me the sound inside was pleasantly insulated in 5er as I m getting tired of my m3 noise. If you are going to delete active sound, why not go for m5. Regular 5 is not the car you want, trust me. Otherwise the sound between 2019 and 2020 is the same if not 2020 felt quieter, but that can be just my impression on that particular day.

Did not drive 850. I did not have wow moment in 2020. I did in 2019 though. I think my test drive in 2020 was chicken style as my SA is a guy, in 2019 SA was a girl. We had some fun and the car impressed me (I guess this makes me creepy old man)

Not to hijack, but I just picked up my 2019 540i at lunch. I was working a deal with another dealer, and before I could sign on the line, they had sold it. So George is correct, don't snooze.

I'm still not sure what kind of a deal I got, as they play with the numbers so much and of course, they lost money on it. Got a fair number on the trade though, so that helps. And my BMW CCA rebate will be coming along as well.

Coming from an F01 750i, the 540i is of course less powerful, but the shorter wheelbase gives it a bit more responsive feel, and the tech is a bit more up-to-date. I had a 2019 X5 service loaner last week with the iDrive 7 and I did not care for it or the IP display. That's one reason I stayed a year back and didn't order a 2020. The 5 is also quieter as far as wind & road noise compared to the 750i. I wonder if they are using active noise cancellation?

5 is not quieter, 7 is.
Your 7 was old, your 5 is new. You will see it will get noisier....

About Virtual Cockpit in 2020, when seeing in real life, I liked it. But I would be happier with dials style like 2019 has. For 550, 2020 delivers new engine. For 540, there is no change. So I'd get 2019 with lower trim and save big $$$ but after m3 I could not settle for less hp, maybe next car will be a smarter choice for me. For now I go with my hart.

I am sure the 2020 marketing figure is also underrated, so no speed winner implied by the 2019 car having more HP than stated.

I was just teasing. However It is not clear to me why BMW would lower published HP numbers when competitors do not.

All you have to do is compare M850 test results to the 456 HP M550 test results to see the performance upgrade of the 2020. I have no doubt based upon the 850 that it really does put out the additional rated power.

My local dealers just got some 2020s in so I'll test drive one.

I'm still debating 20 inch rims too. Being in NY I'd be gambling but a few on this forum have increased sidewall 5% and have had great success so that's what I'd do since I would need to upgrade to all seasons anyway.

They have and competitors do also at times. As to why, there are plenty of theories.

Not exactly a perfect test between the two different cars (M850 has different gearing, weight), but I would bet the 2020 is faster that the 2019 model. That is also because the 2020 is likely putting out more HP than listed.

Yes 30k difference is a big factor. The reason I suggested m5 is b/c you were asking about engine sound etc. I'd get used m5 over m550 bc the latter is a regular car while m is an m. In my case, I need a break from m so m550 is a good compromise I hope.

Weird... I went from F80 to G30, pretty identical MSRP at 86 each and my G30 insurance was $20 less for the year.

So....
Weird... I went from F80 to G30, pretty identical MSRP at 86 each and my G30 insurance was $20 less for the year.
Luckily I found another insurer for less than m3. With currently geico it would be 150-200/year more vs m.
