I've had my 540i for about 2.5 years now. Since March of last year (COVID-19), I've been working from home, and haven't driven the car that much. Maybe once or twice a week, I'll drive it locally (usually less than 5 miles).
I actually only have about 12,000 miles on the car, and 10,000 of those were registered in the first year. I still love the car, no complaints at all. However, I noticed the tires suddenly have no grip. When I accelerate hard, there is slippage. I feel like one of those out-of-control Mustang drivers you see on YouTube… Honestly, it just doesn't feel safe driving the car. I checked the treads. No obvious tire wear at all. Is this normal? Do tires suddenly go bad because of a lack of usage. Has anyone experienced this? EDIT: Tires are Goodyear Eagles all seasons sport

Rubber does have a shelf life but I wouldn't expect this out of all season tires. More of a summer tire issue because they lose performance when exposed to cold weather.
Three year old UHP tires are pretty old though so maybe this makes sense. |

This is very odd to hear... I'm in pretty much the same position as you - 3 year old car with 15,500 on it (nearly) although barely used for the last 16 months or so. Goodyear Eagles on mine and they still feel great. Have you got any damage on the tread / can you post an image?

I agree with you, it must logically be something with the tyres - yours look just like mine, have you got a good local mechanic nearby who you can speak to? That would be my first port of call.

Yeah, I'm going to do that. I'm wondering if the Florida climate is a factor. The car sits in my garage all day. It's not air conditioned and temperatures routinely are over 100 degrees inside it.

If you can find a way, try another set of wheels+tires to rule the tires in/out as the cause. Or if it’s RWD with a square setup, swap front and back. Also, how’s the braking and lateral grip?
