Magbarn is correct, no coding needed to make it work, although if you get technical about it, it will cause an error to show up in ISTA or at the dealer because there is a code to change for if you have the 4-zone climate panel, but that doesn’t affect functionality at all.

If you only have heated seats, it changes the layout to make the seat heater buttons more in the middle, vs how the ventilated and heated buttons are side by side. You can see how it looks with just the heated seats here. Those pics are from when I tested it on my X3, but it looks the same now that it’s in my G30.

Would this work without heat heaters or ventilation?

For the longest time I thought all G30s came with this HVAC controller... I believe this comes with one of the basic packages, if not standard in Canada. My 540 has this and isn't listed as an optional equipment or equipment under any packages.

Can probably find these on Canadian auction sites as well.

You do realize the touch HVAC controls are prone to horizontal lines developing on them overtime? This is a fairly common complaint with this touch panel and BMW hasn't done anything to remedy the problem other than to replace the panel with another defective new touch panel under warranty.

This one mod, proceed with caution and know what you are getting yourself into. The standard LED non touch HVAC display panel is far more reliable.

So the control panel doesn’t have anything to do with the actual cd drive. Since I have a 2020, it did not come with a CD player. Since the panel set I bought came from a car that did, I just swapped over the top half of the controls from my panel so I didn’t have the cd opening sitting there for no reason. Haven’t had any issues with it.

Good to know for those looking for them. My understanding was you only got the touch panel controls if you have the 4-Zone climate control.

That is correct......you got this touchpad if you have 4-zone climate control. It's not an option on the BMW site I don't think.....but some have added it in via their dealer. I know when I built my M550I it was not an option. I do love the touchscreen in my M5 now. I actually think it's the nicest touchscreen A/C heat controls of any BMW as the 7 series also has this same touchscreen.....not sure if it's a little bigger or not. It may indeed be the exact same unit. The 8 series/X5 and X7 went back to hitting buttons to do all that and that setup just looks cheaper in my opinion there.

Just to add as data point for those looking for used parts... I do not have comfort seats or 4-zone climate control on my 540, but I still have this touchpad.

I saw a 530 at the dealership that looks pretty stripped out, that car has this touchpad as well. I'm in Canada.

The touchpad is nice but like I said earlier is very prone to develop unsightly horizontal lines across the display.

Here you go the instructions for removing and re-installing the ac panel, provided by NewTIS.info

Here is my input.
No need to remove the wooden middle piece all together it can be just moved up and no need to disconnect the wires, don't pry the piece from the side where you take the screw off (try to grab it in the middle and pull toward the seats/inward).
AC/CD piece it self is tricky and gives few scary creaks while being removed so my tip is get a plastic interior trim piece (the one that looks like a crowbar) and follow the instructions in links above (i find that a single hard move down on the crowbar was waaay better than slowly trying to wait until it separates since the back spikes have some give so force is needed).

The rest is simple and just reverse steps, NO NEED TO CODE ANYTHING! Interface immediately displayed all the correct options (no cooled seats option was displayed like OP).

Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions.

Is the G11 Touch Climate Control Unit how can fit the G30 ?
Anyone experienced that ?

Like here ?
https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=22

P.S: G30 and X3 are same completely, but G11 unit has different external connectors (wiring and sockets are same)

So can i move the g11 climate control block to inside the my g30's climate control cover so it may compatible then.

Yes, Canadian G30s have the touch screen as standard, but not the US models.

The packages and options in Canada are a little different than those in the US. I know because my dad has a Canadian 2017 540 and I have a US 2019 M550.

For example, in Canada, the m-sport package is standard. Also, the ambient air (fragrance) package is available, whereas in the US it is not. And until 2020, the US models had the hybrid instrument cluster as standard, whereas in Canada, the full digital cluster was standard since 2017.

Another data point: I was able to request both "4-zone climate" and "ambient air" packages on my US-spec 2018 540d though my dealership, and BMW NA was able to add both to my build. My car came with the touch screen controller as a result. The rear seat controls use the more standard physical buttons with a black and white LCD.

I was surprised and disappointed to see that this touch screen is not on the 2021 US 5 series. I ordered my M550 last week.

I was driving an M5 Competition at the track yesterday which had this touch panel and I found it to be far preferable.

For those who have done it, odds that it will also work on the 2021s? Can anyone provide a link about where to find it?

Thanks.

Pretty sure it will still work, based on seeing the pictures of it on the 2021’s it appears to be the exact same screen. I don’t think the IHKA climate control module that runs it was changed for LCI.

Instructions are here
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/g...sor/1VnZ2xwAM2

But;

I can't remove the climate panel with a plastic trim remover. I'm using it like a crowbar but climate panel still stuck in the dash. I'm trying to unmount climate unit from passenger side corner but no results.

I've tried without removing the trim piece (top panel) that goes from passenger out to the Start switch. If i complete remove it, i think will be same result because of climate unit doesn't move to outside from dash.

If you're stuck at any step it just means you're not using enough force but if you try being forceful and you're still stuck imagine that the ac panel is "hinged at the top" and try to pry it out bottom side first.

Thank you for your explanation.

Must i remove the dash trim first 100% ?
So can i just force hard to bottom of climate panel only while skip the 1st and 2nd steps in here ?
