Former F10 owner here...who considered his F10 one of the most beautiful sedans ever seen.

To me the G30 is better in 95% of the design. Things I don't like:

The chrome trim on the Breather. It's not even the fact that I don't prefer the chrome, I just don't like the way it looks "tacked on". Would prefer it to be more subtly integrated into the bodywork. And not chrome, lol.

Exhausts...don't like 'em, period. Too fussy. The 550's are much better, as are the 530's.

Lower grille opening LED's. Horrible. Get rid of 'em. What's with the bulky, individual looking bulbs? Are we 2000's Audi S5 here? Or maybe a Kia? It's a bad look BMW, get rid of it. You want LED's? Get with the times and get a light pipe or OLED style. 2" wide individual lamps scream DATED.

Beer tap style shifter...kill this already. The SAT shifter from the F10 was SO much more pleasing than this awkward angular joystick. I know you've toned it down and smoothed it out but come on.

Otherwise, this is a very nice update and a sharp looking car, as someone else said.

G30 exterior is nicer but the F10 interior looks better actually.

My $0.02

$0.01 #1:
Stylistically, my biggest gripe about the otherwise sublime F10, compared to the E60, was that the hood not only was long and huge, but swept upward at the sides, significantly reducing the driver's view of the road ahead. The E60's hood was awesome the way it curved downward, so that from the cockpit you could only just see it - it was in the absolute perfect form to give you maximum vision of the road, while sufficient perspective for where the front of the car was for tight maneuvering. The F10's hood makes the car feel like the barge that it is.

The G30's hood seems to have resolved some of that visibility deficiency in the F10, but then again maybe not, seeing how they have actually moved the driver's position even further back on the frame. It's aesthetically pleasing (beautiful car), but I'll be curious to see what affect that new driving position has on the driver's perspective. We're getting into Corvette-levels of long-nosedness.

$0.01 #2:
I love that the overall dash is quite a bit lower in the G30 than the F10. Again, comes back to the driver's visibility.

All-in-all, this is a very evolutionary design; quite conservative, but it looks great! I sure hope they have resolved the driving dynamics of the car, though. Our pre-LCI F10 535i is a numb wallowing barge. I hate it. I have sworn off the 5er unless and until they get that resolved. I've had a chance to drive several LCI F10s (528 and 535) and have liked them much better than ours. Heck, even the 528 with it's 4-pot drove massively better than our 6-pot 2011.

I love both. The tail lights both look good. But the tail lights on the g30 look so much better than the new f30 tail light redesign. Thats what it should've been more like!

Overall it looks like a nice evolution of the 5. I don't see any problem with pulling slight design cues from older cars although I don't see any e34. I think most people think this looks great.

the f10 and g30 seem more evolutionary to the e39 than the e60 was, but the e60 was definitely more bold and good looking than either the f10 or g30. it is hard to top the e39 for looks

Styling is improved IMO, but too much Buick chrome in front. Looks added on after the fact.

F10 still looks great! Especially the LCI M-sport and LCI M5

But I think I'm leaning slightly towards the G30, more aggressive, a little sleeker...

HOWEVER my two gripes with it:
1) The stupid fender blade thing... so random... at least it's better than the 4 series boomerang but still seems like a forced design element. You can easily create that detailing just with surface panel bends to reflect light in the same manner the blade would, and I think that would have been preferred and would age better.

and...

2) The greenhouse looks too small from side profile, one thing I loved about the F10 is that not only from inside, but outside also it had that good size greenhouse look. and it could just be that the press photos of the G30 have the chrome window trim instead of gloss black, so curious to see what it'll look like with it blacked out, could just be a case of visual trickery there... but my preference is the F10's more open door window treatment.

Overall I like it better than the G11 7XXi, and definitely better than that new W213 E class (that thing looks just like a c class till you drop every option on it... and even then it's just visual tricks to take you away from a poorly designed car, interior is baller tho!).

The tacked on ipad look in the G30 just kills the dashboard for me. The F10 does a better job at integrating the idrive screen (without having the double-hump that people dislike), otherwise the G30 interior is a good step up.

It's so difficult to top a design like the F10 and while I feel it's "cleaner" than the G30, the G30 is overall very attractive and will certainly catch the eye in real life. It has some beautiful design details, great car.

Not gonna lie... I wasnt sure they could better the F10 but "Cot Dayyyuuum" the G30 is stunning. I thought it would be disappointing like the 7'er but Im glad to say that I was wrong.

Cant wait for the new 6'er or 8'er big coupes that BMW is planning.

Mercedes E class can move aside. This thing is beautiful in and out.

Waiting on the F10 M5 and the G30 M5 comparison! So far I prefer the F10 just because of those tail lights I think when I see it in person I might change my mind though! One last thought, I don't really like those LED lights that are tacked on the front bumper it's just kind of old school for how modern this car looks. I think I'm going to stick with my F10 for now and maybe wait until a mid cycle body style change or something.

The E34 headlights did not touch the kidney grills. Yes, they touched "grill" because the entire fascia surrounding the lights was grill, as with the preceding generations. However the kidneys were still narrow and the headlights were way out at the corners. With the E36 E38 and E39, BMW went away from that "all-grill" look and the kidneys became the only grill at headlight level, separated from the headlights by sheetmetal. Now with the most recent generations from F3x and up, even the SUVs, the sheetmetal gap is taken away for what is meant to be a more aggressive look.

I agree the G30 makes the F10 look a little dorky.. lol. But I still do like the rear of the F10.

Oh and I'm overjoyed to see that the hood now meets the kidneys. I hate that seam running across behind the roundel on F30, F10 etc.
I disagree, totally not a stretch. The headlights casing could be seen as the grill that connected to the kidneys. The headlights are the actual graphics under the casing. Notice the portion between the Kidneys is a continuation of the headlight casing. Pointed this to quite a few co-workers here at the BMW dealership I work with and they all agreed.

I love both G30 and F10. G30 is more futuristic, but F10 has a better dashboard design (my personal opinion).

What I don't like in the photos above is that the comparison of their interiors is not fair. G30 has M Sport Package interior and F10 don't.
