A sakhir orange 5er? Bold. I would love to see San Marino blue and or Monte Carlo blue stay for the M5

As a BMW and Porsche owner the thing that bothers me the most is the pandering to technology. The biggest issue here is just as smart phones become old in a year or two (or incompatible with software releases etc) these generations of cars will suffer a similar thing.
I know that sounds negative but whilst I might like to visit an ice bar as a treat I'm not sure I want to drive in one every day, whilst I like the convience of a smart phone I would make a significant purchase (like a house or car) to use one and what happened to the focus on pure driving pleasure. If you buy something like this because hand gestures cancel an incoming calls, or neon mood lighting then I'd suggest you stop driving and get a taxi everywhere. I suspect we are all living in the accountant run company era, profit matters more than quality (I bet we all see it in our own company's or vendors) but I bet if we took these 'next generation versions back to the original Mr BMW or Mr Porsche they would say No Way.
People will be tripping over themselves to find a 1976 5 series and that's 40 years old, these new ones will be obsolete in less than 20... .....maybe that's the plan

rant over - sorry BMW you do make brilliant things, but please get back to cars and motorcycles.

Till you see it in real life

The same was said about the F30 and E90 3 Series when most only saw pictures of them.
In real life one doesnt confuse the one for the other.

S6 anyday- most moderately equipped 5 series with 6 cylinders will be in the 65-70k range (or higher depending) Ill take the S6 for 75k- 443 hp V8

Lets forget the notion of the "Ultimate Driving machine" these cars are too big and heavy to be that- so most larger cars in this price range all drive OK or better than OK so rear drive vs 4 wheel drive? Ill take 4WD anytime.

That exhaust sounds terrible. Worse than Porsche's 4-cylinder Boxster, and that's saying something.

I drove BMW 5ers since the early-80s, but my last two cars have been Audis (an S4 and now an S6). My switch was because BMW executed xDrive primarily for foul weather traction. Audi engineered Quattro primarily for its handling characteristics, with foul weather traction as an ancillary benefit. Take a closer look at Audi's S cars. Their suspension is dropped (they don't sit higher like xDrive). Most important, the optional sport diff splits torque not just front-to-back, but also side-to-side. The impact on the cars' handling characteristics is amazing.

btw, I still consider myself a BMW guy and am dying to get back into the brand. I keep lurking in these forums in hopes that BMW throws the towel in and copies Quattro. The 540ix looks good, but the M550 may (may) actually pull it off. My fingers are crossed.

As a Porsche owner, you're aware that that company has managed to incorporate technology and luxury without losing their performance soul. The problem of course is that by not compromising anywhere, a Panamera costs two times the price of a 5er.

Hi Hinckley, I am and yes they do. I think where Porsche are concerned you will see purists looking for 964, 993, 997s in preference to 991s - in time. This is because the tech such as Apple integration is very fashionable and as with all fashion it goes out of date - quickly. I think it will date these cars especially when you can't update them. That said I love the 991 its fantastic.

Agree,....the in the 5's design is so Ford like! It would be nice to be able to "delete" that at on at time or ordering!

If I cared about Audi, I would be on an Audi forum. I sat in an A6 two weeks ago at the showroom and it felt old. I'm not sure why you're trying to sell those things to us when you also say you're dying to get back into BMW...

BMW does this - it's called DPC.

I sat in an S6 3 weeks ago and it was fantastic- compared to my 435 it looked very slick- loved the pinstriped aluminum inlayed in the black wood trim- NOTHING "old" about that. Eventually its all subjective but for the money- Ill take the S6 over the 550i

Because I'm a thinking man and not a fan boy. I can appreciate something while still recognizing its negative attributes. You?
