I actually hate this setup on my wife's Honda as sometimes you just want one extra wipe and this way you either go up and turn on the wipers (which I don't want) or you need to go two down and then two back up. Stupid...my F30 extra button is much better for me, as you can just press down one, you get an extra wipe and the stalk comes back to neutral. Too bad they got rid of it.

What about auto-high beams on the left stalk? Is it still an extra button?

All of that and one or two sentences on the handling..... what happened to that being the headline for a BMW review?

I was thinking the same, prefers the old version.

Look at the present 1- (not in the US?) and 3-series, both have this dark grey msport detail and now it has been smacked on to the 5-series. I also dislike it but it was inevitable. Deciding between mediterranean and bluestone for the G31 order and the darker the car the less this area is noticeable. Waiting for "real life" pictures of mediterranean that I can understand and rate the colour from.

Damn them...
+1. I am one of those that understand it and adjusts it several times each ride I just say

It is so ugly that is seems to be forbidden in Europe. How they can put this in an expensive US model is beyond me. I want all of it in the HUD but until I can get that I am going for 6WB.

I don't get why 6WB isn't available in US at launch???

They are making it available in the 4 LCI and 3 as well.

Not tracking how climate dial negatively impacts IQS?

I disagree...It's an evergreen feature thats been on generations of BMW's. If people cant understand a simple knob god help em with the rest of the features on these cars. It simply provides cooler air on the face if desired when warmer air is on the lower torso. It doesnt need to be used at all when cooling in summer. Just keep on cold.

BMW isn't ditching the feature, they just made it even more complex and 3 steps away burying it in iDrive. I guess thats progress.

Most probably manufacturing constraints.
Same reason many parts or engines often arnt available at launch. Same with Individual not being available at launch

There have been negative reviews for years about it as people initially dont understand how to use it. So IQS scores drop

Same with the indicator controls. The now old way is superior, but people dont initially understand it and give the car bad scores

Seems most people want mindless technology

Shame to lose such simple and easy to use controls.

Burying the face level air flow control in iDrive, is a backwards step in my view.

As for the auto wiper control... the single wipe while on auto is a useful function. If we have to go through two positions, rather than a spring return wipe function, how is that progress?

Both the above take away from simplicity of function.

I can see how people might not initially get the temp dial but I think it's great once you understand it and I don't see how burying it in iDrive is convenient at all. It's something you want to have access to quickly.

I for one use it a lot as I get warm very easily and like cool air on my face.

I guess we have to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I don't believe they are, if you look at the picture, I believe it looks like one touch down is now single wipe

From the picture posted (Post #87) you have to go through off to get to a single wipe. That to me means you switch auto off. Need to switch auto on again.

At present we can keep auto wipe running and add a single 'flick' wipe. I find that feature very useful.

I checked this when I test drove a 540 earlier today. You are correct. And the old design was better.

Its a shame they went down this road. Single wipe was a life saver in the everchanging winter conditions in Finland..........!!! : ( Not Happy )
