First issue with car

First problem with my car last night, rear camera stopped working.

Seen there are some of you here you have seen this before , issue would appear to be intermittent.
Wanted to clarify for those of you who got it fixed, what did it turn out to be, software (ie Istep) or hardware related in some way?

In my fathers F15 it was the camera itself... 20 days out of warranty
