Is the G30 selling well?

Local dealer made a comment they are making a push to get the new 5 series on the road. Inventory here doesn't seem to move terribly fast - then again I am in Nashville and not in a larger city.

Haven't seen any new models on the road - maybe 1 that I can recall.

Begs the question, is the new 5 selling all that well?

They aren't selling all that well in my area (SF Bay Area). Lots of heavily discounted inventory of 530i/540i. People may be waiting for the 2018 models. So far, I've seen only one G30 on the road in my area which has many F10. I think another factor is that sedans are becoming less and less popular.

cars in general aren't selling well. SUVs are strong.

Lease prices on the G30 are terrible and have been. BMW gave my dealer a goal of "Move 45% of your July 5th lot 3ers and 5ers" for some bonus, but did nothing to help actually move the cars.

The X vehicles are all that really sell at my dealer.

How dare you ask this question?

When I noted a month back the large amounts of inventory in South Florida I was ridiculed. Miami/Ft Lauderdale is a hotbed for BMW so it's been surprising to see the lack of G30's on the road. Personally I don't believe the car is selling well at all; to be fair I believe the same applies to the E300 relative to expectations. I really want to like, as I'm hearing great things about the dynamics, but in person it does little for me. I prefer the nose and tail of the F10. We'll see how it grows. Maybe nicer wheels? The 19s and 20s couldn't be more boring.

I will personally will wait on the diesel, if/when it ever arrives.

In EU and in Czech I have met some G30. Like F10 when it was released.

I have been waiting for my car almost 6 months I believe it was some reason. Plus they had to open another facory in Graz.

So I guess yes it sells well.. In EU for sure does..

I've bought one!
Not seen many on the road yet here in the UK, certainly less than 10.

It is unusual for a new model to sell in lower volume than the model it replaces.

17,499 YTD in the US market vs. 20,275 for the same time period in 2016
http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2011/01...s-figures.html

There are so many factors: production limitations, continued shift to SUVs, increased price and poor lease deals, reduced scheduled maintenance, unexciting styling, lack of an electric model, and mediocre reception in US automotive press are just a few.

Another factor is the increased desirability of lower segment cars. Personally I am torn between an A5 Sportback and a 530i for my next car, with the Audi having reached levels of interior design, refinement and technology that rivals the mid-sizers. If I do not find BMW leases as aggressive as they were for my current and previous BMW, I'm out. The discontinuation of MSDs doesn't help.

Can't remember seeing any G30s yet in my little corner of the world......even though I'm constantly watching out for them.

I have the feeling that all large sedans (E-class, A6, XJ...) will sell in fewer numbers over coming years, due to a number of factors: prevalence of SUVs, trend to smaller/more "efficient" engines, lifestyle/image choices, practicality, running costs etc.

But let's hope not....

As bmw tries to make and sell cars on audi/lexus/mercedes turf the more they will see themselves losing, as they do their own turf better then bmw ever will.

Although people say there is an overall trend of less sales for sedans I already see far more new e classes then old ones on the streets and I would bet many of you have already seen more of the new e class then the g30, despite the new e class being very bland.

Bmw had a unique niche which allowed it to become what it is. They made cars in that niche like no other. As they have systematically moved away from that niche they are now standing on a precipice. Problem is they don't even see the fall coming.

All we can do is continue to be demanding of what we want out of our cars to help steer them correctly.

I agree wholeheartedly... I don't think they are selling well. Styling is just not as aggressive and wheels look generic at best. A5 sport back even though lacks in power, its a very balanced car to drive. G30 is definitely quieter but even with Msport steering is as soft as a lexus!!! F10 steering was much better.

To get the best of G30 steering either use Sport mode or OR ecoPro-Individual chosen Sport steering. Either is better than comfort mode regarding steering feel.

Well in the North East I have seen some G30s apart from mine. What is baffling when you go dealerships up here is lack of availability of G30s on the forecourt

Well about a month ago. I was followed by another Alpine white G30 later during the same journey I followed a bluestone metallic G30. So G30 is not that uncommon here. However F10s are everywhere

I think this is already the battle of the past. They need to move faster on electric. We'll see soon what the upcoming electric 3-series is like, and they'd better be working on an electric 5-series and electric SUVs.

They are going to have to get aggressive on offers, whether it's through lease incentives or simply competing in the the marketplace. Folks are snagging very aggressive deals on A6s and E Classes.

Until they make electric vechicles with much longer range and easy, quick charges, people like me will not buy them. My wife and I take way too many long trips and put too many miles on my cars to have an electric, as much as I would want one. That is why diesels were so great, outstanding range and fun to drive. Also gas is so cheap, electrics will need to get much cheaper to buy for the US population to buy them.

I think if the G30 is not selling well is partly because BMW dropped the aggressive incentives right after the G30 came out. Of course, another big reason is lot of people buying SUV's now.
