Until and unless they make a 540e or 545e, I will stick with my 2018 530e.

this is awesome, no more need for a dash cam!

Just wish it was an option on the X3M as that is the next car I am considering.
Agreed. I just saw this text too in the 8 series announcement.

Handy!

Another benefit of the system is that, in the event of a collision, the 20 seconds before the accident and the 20 seconds following it are automatically recorded and saved, so they can be referred back to in any subsequent reconstruction of the incident.

not surprised, curious to see what magazines hit with the 2020 m550i.

huge variance in trap speed for the m850i, car and driver hit 123 while motor trend hit 116. I wonder if the gearing will be different for the M550i because you definitely can tell the m850i's 1-3 gears are shorter.

Could the BMW Drive Recorder be retrofitted to current generation G30? I'd love to have that, not to mount dash cams in case of an incident.

M850i also weighs 4400 lbs (only 14 lbs less than M550i) so I would expect them to have similar results.

Old M550i hit 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.3
with 74 less HP 73 less torque, those are huge jumps (over 15% increase)

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...y-the-numbers/
there is some debate with that test though, motor trend got a much slower trap speed of 116..which is similar to the M550i.

https://www.motortrend.com/cars/bmw/...t-test-review/

really curious to see what they are able to squeeze out with the new motor on the m550i..

We should enjoy what we have because most people would love to be fortunate enough to own a BMW no matter what year it is.

I'm curious if the M550i is going to get a new rear emblem to reflect the new engine.

No.

Also, I’m seeing speculation surrounding the 540i getting the high output B58B30O1 engine at some point. There is absolutely no evidence to support this. The 540i (and 640i GT) will switch from the current B58B30M0 to the B58B30M1 engine for MY2020, a “silent” update that will bring no change in peak power, but will bring it up to spec with the 740i LCI, imminent 840i, X5 40i, imminent X6 40i, and X7 40i. There are no plans for M40i M performance vehicles in the 5/6/7/8 product families, and no plans to use the O1 engine outside of the 3/4 product families.

Now makes my choice a bit easier. I was waiting for 2020 m550 or m5 /m5c . With all these upgrades and 25-30K cheaper than m5 its almost a no brainer. However, I am also looking at a X4MC , 500 hp and a true M car Er um SAV. X4MC well optioned 86K , the 2020 m550 with all the goodies maybe 95k?

Interesting thing is that M550xi is still an niche car. Most dealers will tell you its for a VERY specific audience. My dealer told me that at his dealership here in LA, it's all downtown lawyer types -- guys with the $$ but who want to fly under the radar a bit. BMW knows they've priced it richly, so I don't think this will change the MSRP all that much. Anyone who's played w/ the configurator in the last 18 months has probably seen their configurations come down in price, as BMW has been stealthily changing options packages and moving stuff into standard equipment. Once the sticker starts hitting 85k, per my dealer, most people will put out another 10k for a 7 for the room, or loaded X5 for lateral or less $$.

The current car has been dyno'd stock at 540HP, once again BMW underrating in a big way. This updated engine may be rated closer to the reported figures. Also, the M850 used different gearing, which would effect 0-60 performance. Need to wait until real world tests to see the new engines effect.

You guys misread the text. It’s not available on the 5 series. Only the 3,7,8,x5 and x7

Wow 530hp and 553 ft-lbs.. incredible

This is the car I have been waiting for and now I am torn since it does not have the updated grill like the 7 series / 3 series. Maybe I buy used and then buy next year when the grill is updated... decisions, decisions
Those numbers are no joke. Massive power there for a 550i BMW

I am willing to bet that current m550 is almost the same engine output as 2020 model year. See link below for my testing and comparison to my old F10 550. F10 and G30 engine ratings are almost identical but JB+ f10 was slower than stock g30.

That would suck if true. I am hoping the 0-60 comes down to 3.7 seconds with the new 550i engine.
