Torque Specs Wanted for Strut Brace/Bar Screws

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
All,

I'm trying to gain access into my air box, but it seems the only way to get into it, is by removing the strut brace/bar. Removing this isn't a problem but when I re-tighten the E16 and 16mm screw/bolts that hold this in place, I would want to do it back to factory sepc.

Does anyone know the torque specs this is tightnened to? I don't want it to cause any issues (structurally etc) if it was just tightened to 'feel'.

I found a post online that said it maybe 250nm but with newtis not working anymore (for free), I can't confirm.

TIA

250Nm, no way! That'd shear that bolt right off! It's one order of magnitude off

Spec for that bolt is 56Nm jointing torque with an additional 90 degree rotation.

Thank you. I can see it has the specs for both bolts on that picture.

When it says renew screw, does that mean use a new one after its been taken out or just put the same one back on?

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Technically whenever it says renew it means to use a brand new part and throw away the old one. The reasoning is since the bolt is torque to yield, it slightly deforms every time that you tighten it down. However, for something like this strut bar, I doubt it matters. I've personally re-used TTY bolts in non-critical components (i.e. I wouldn't re-use TTY bolts securing the oil pan or wheel hub) without major consequence. But, that call is yours to make! Btw, PM me if you're interested in newTIS 2.0

Hi, i’m also looking for the torque specs for the main strut bar that connects the two strut towers, would you have this? I’m replacing the g30 one with the f90 m5 variant, hoping to tighten the chassis a bit

Post pics when you make the change.

Bolts of the same diameter and made from the same materials typically have the same torque spec. Check to see if the ones for the brace you're looking at have the same diameter as the ones referenced above.

TTY bolts make sense for the manufacturer and no one else really. Head studs, rod bearing cap bolts, and now even oil pan bolts are TTY. I'm old school and prefer studs with a set torque value even though I have a Snap On Techangle electronic angle torque wrench. When I did the rod bearings on 3 S65 (E9x M3 engines) I used the BE Bearings and special ARP rod bearings. Easy. No fussy angle torquing working over your head.
