NFC Keycard option for G30?

Never seen it mentioned, but does anyone know if you can get the NFC key card for the G30 with ID6? it looks like a credit card you can keep in your wallet for locking/unlocking car without your regular key. I know the new X5 with ID7 has the option and I'm pretty sure you can also get it on the new 3 series.

It's expected this option will be available starting with LCI.

You don't even get an NFC key card for a G30 with ID7. Some people have called it ID7-lite in the G30, and I think that's a proper attitude, since it lacks remote start and the dash cam functionality tied to the in-built cameras.

Nor do you get Reverse Assistant despite having the Parking Assistant Plus. It’s the same with Driving Assistance, Profession isn’t available on the G30 but it’s an option on other models. This seems really strange as the G30 with options has the same cameras etc as the models that offers those options.

If it makes you feel any better, key card is not in 2020 G12 750 with ID7 either.

And I don't see reversing assistant listed as a G12 feature either. Crazy considering it just hit LCI for 2020!

Does anyone know of the G12 has remote software upgrades or is it's ID7 implementation neutered like the G30?

My G12 has reverse assistant and remote software upgrade. It is a full ID7 -- but no key card.

Yes, I was asking because I perused the web brochure and didn't see reverse assist listed nor did I see remote software update. It only mentioned OTA maps.

Good to hear G12 has a full implementation of iDrive 7. Wonder why BMW chose to skip the NFC card?

Do we have proof the G30 iDrive 7 lacks remote software upgrades?

BMW Update site says my MY2020 G30 iDrive 7 has remote software upgrades.

BMW Update site says my MY2020 G30 iDrive 7 has remote software upgrades.
Owners of MY20 G30s have discussed this issue in the forums on this site. IDrive7 in the G30 lacks some features, including remote software update.

Cars with remote software update have some different modules. And from reading BMW tech bulletins, it appears remote software upgrade communicates with modules that have TLS certificates installed to help protect from "evilware" being pushed. Seems the G30 does not have all the modules in the certificate chain.

That should change with LCI.

I collect my 530e tomorrow so downloaded the Drive’s Guide for my car using the VIN. The Guide brought down two versions of the pdf Handbook. The earlier version (01402629236) makes no reference to Remote Software Update. BUT the later Handbook (01402629264) has it confirmed - I think the earlier version is the pre July update. Similarly, there are 2 Infotainment handbook too.
I’ll be able to confirm tomorrow if Remote Software is now standard. Name: EB9148AC-8E74-4E67-AD1D-AC841614ABBE.jpg

Yeah, I do remember seeing this in the manual. The second one covers iDrive 7, but oddly this section is missing in my car. I snagged a video. Please ignore the fingerprints on the screen, I need to clean it!

I can confirm that I saw the Remote Software Upgrade menu option in the 2020 3 series this morning while at the dealer waiting to state inspections the be completed on my vehicle.

It is possible that this will come in an update for the MY2020 cars since it is in the manual

I can confirm that I saw the Remote Software Upgrade menu option in the 2002 3 series this morning while at the dealer waiting to state inspections the be completed on my vehicle.

2002 3 series? I suspect you mean 2020?

2019+ G20 3 series has remote software upgrading in iDrive7.

G30 2020 doesn't have the full suite of updated modules that the new 3 series, X5, etc has. Those should come with LCI.

Looks like BMW threw in iDrive7 (lite) to the 2020 G30 as a marketing ploy. Maybe to combat people who likes Audi's revised MMI.

Yeah, a typo there.

It is odd as it is in the MY2020 G30 manual as being included (as shared earlier), but it isn't included when you access iDrive 7 in the car. It is possible that this will be added via a dealer installed update ahead of the LCI. As the manual pages were added for a reason.

The manual doesn't discuss other features not on the G30 with iDrive 7, such as reverse assistance.

I hear ya. I'm going with a simple communication breakdown between departments at BMWAG. Time will tell. For your sake I hope I've got it wrong. That said, so far Remote Software upgrade has been ho hum. Check the G05 and G20 forums.

It is even more confusing. Collected my new 530e today (Oct build). The manual has Remote Software Update. My car doesn’t seem to have it. However, on Connected Drive my car has 2 Services “That Can Be Booked” - Wifi & Remote Software Update - I try to ‘book it’ in the Store and there isn’t a way to.

I am back at the dealers tomorrow - remote 3D view isn’t accessible despite the car having the right options. Also, Connected Drive was all over the place today, losing driver profiles, wrong previous destinations, etc etc.

Minor gremlins - I think the car is far better than the 18 month old Merc E350e I px’d against the 530e. Continental TS860S winter tyres going on tomorrow so be interesting to see the difference between RFT’s and normal / softer winter tyres. Adaptive seems to make the M Sport as comfortable as the airmatic on the Merc.

I agree on the minor gremlins. I would have strongly considered the E350e if it were offered in the US as I was very happy with my C300 I had owned for 5 years before switching over, but in every way the BMW is a better car and overall package.

I have never seen Remote 3D view in my Connected app even though I have the Surround View cameras w/ automatic parking and that should be all I need. I also don't see the eDrive stuff that should show in the app for eDrive cars that is geared toward efficiency information.

But I am still thinking the problem is in someway related to the iDrive 7 for the G30 not being fully ready yet, but production deadlines being what they are they had to ship. We'll get more functionality overtime.

A minor detail though as this car is an absolute joy to drive!

I was very happy with my E350e but decided to change as Merc’s battery warranty isn’t as good as BMW’s and as I intend to keep the car some time, that was important. In the U.K. (it may be better in the States) BMW warrant that any depletion greater than 25% over 6 years will be made good - Merc just offer total failure in 6 years and even that is caveated that it has to be a manufacturing fault. Also, the delivery time was 9 months and I couldn’t wait. The 530e was delivered within 3 months.
There are a couple of things that Merc seem to do better but overall the Beemer is far superior.

Not just the G30. Pretty much every model with iDrive7 suffering from bugs. And 3D remote view is a common complaint.

First, congratulations on your car. Enjoy it.

Not surprised at all that you see options in Connected Drive you cannot access. My 2019 540i with iDrive 6 has the remote software upgrade option showing in the Connected Drive website. Lol
