Reviving this oldie as this has happened to me yesterday, emergency call malfunction. Anyone have the part # for the battery?

According to the ISTA you need to remove the whole headliner but that's too much work so this is a workaround to replace the battery

Update on "Emergency call system malfunction" on 2018 M550 sedan.
It was showing this message intermittently since beginning of this year, and eventually constantly.

Here is how BimmerLink app error code looks like:

Confirming: Getting to the battery is really easy.
Unpop the plastic cover (it is held by 2 plastic clips), then slightly pull the headliner - not more than 2 inches - and you can access the module battery door. Just push the opening with the flat screwdriver and pull it down. That's it!

Best bet would be to order the battery from BMW

Yes, dealer was a last resort.

Found plenty of these batteries online.... 2 447 710-01
They claim it's a good fit, except the mAh are different.
Mine shows capacity of 450mAh / 3.6 Wh and the online battery shows
330mAh / 2.64 Wh.
(not sure what the "2.64 Wh" stands for)

Anyone know if the above specs are that critical ?

Follow up on emergency call battery....
I found out today that the 9 361 678-03 is no longer available.
BMW replaced it with 2 447 710-01 which is available all over
the internet at a very reasonable price.
Just have to be careful of the manufacture date.

Well, that didn't work.
Tried main battery disconnect, tried iDrive reset... no luck.
Read that Bimmercode won't get me into call system.
Going to live with it for now until I get one of my
computer tech grandkids to learn about eSys.

Or, get a new one, which ever comes first.

Anyone know if replacing this battery/resolving this issue is covered under CPO warranty?

Followup.....
Originally purchased a new battery and couldn't get the error message to clear.
Purchased the OBD2 cable, got the basic Bimmercode and tried something easy to get started with the software.
Turned off the "engine auto off" and after I finished that, the software automatically went through and cleared all of the codes.
I can see my mileage again !

I can confirm, there is no need for removing the headliner on G31, I comfortably replaced the battery in mine just by prying the headliner from the rear, with a help from my second hand via speaker grill
