So a little over a month ago, my air conditioner stopped working. I took the car into the dealership and they informed me that I had a small leak, which they repaired.

The AC ran ice cold for a few weeks, and then gradually the same problem returned, indicating that it was still leaking. I took the car back into the shop and was informed that the evaporator behind the dash was leaking.

They’ve had my car almost a week. I was told that in order to fix it the entire dashboard has to be removed and the repair would cost $7000!!!!

Thank goodness I am under extended warranty, and this is fully covered!

I asked my Service Advisor if they would send me a picture and the tech was nice enough to actually send me a video walk-through of my car showing all the parts he had to remove. Here’s a screenshot. Essentially everything forward from the front seats to the windshield is gone steering column center consul the entire dashboard all is removed and in the trunk, backseats, and outside the car… insane!!!.

Looks to be a bit more common now as the newer gen BMW's are aging and getting more milage/use. My service advisor when I went to BMW said he's seen it on a good number of X5's and X7's.

Here's a video of how the service goes:

That looks like NO FUN if you are the BMW tech…. They had my car almost an entire week….

Let’s hope I don’t get a motor failure like another guy posted on this forum!! I will swap this car for something else before my warranty is up FOR SURE!

But WHAT to get??
