Windshield gap dimensions

Hi all,

Had to have the windshield on my 2023 540 replaced last week. Work was done by my BMW Service Center. Not sure if I'm just being OCD, but the gap at the top of the windshield, between the windshield and the roof, seems a little wide to me. Depending on how I measure, I'm getting anywhere between 7-9mm.

The gap on my 330 is much much smaller, but being a different model, I'm not using that as my comparison.

I came across this thread https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2014713, and also found some BMW posts not specifically about the G30 citing upper limits of normal around 6mm.

Before I go back to BMW with this, can anyone confirm if this is normal and/or what the true gap dimension limits are per BMW TIS?

If my windshield gap is, in fact, a millimeter or 2 wider than recommended, is there anything I should be concerned about?

Idk, it just seems wide... but maybe I'm being an insane person...

Thanks!

Yeah my next step was to grab my ruler and start scoping the parking lot…

I suspect the gap on my replacement windshield is bigger than from the factory, the question really is what is BMWs tolerance for that gap and are there any potential issues if it is a little bigger than it should be?

Let's get some measurements going on here. I believe this is an original windshield on a 2018 540i. About 5-6mm.

This is great, thank you all for sending pics and measurements! I grabbed measurements from a few other G30s. Like the above, others measure around 5-6mm. Mine is the last pic and actually measures around 1 cm.

I haven't been able to find a single G30 with a gap as wide as mine. I'll be bringing it back to BMW...

Keep you posted.
