Damaged Pixels on LCD on Climate Control
I was wondering whether anyone has experienced what appears to be damaged pixels on the climate control LCD screen? It has never been banged upon nor do I really touch that area of the screen. So it wouldn't appear to be a pressure point.

The panel is yet another touch screen whereas the 2-Zone system is LEDs with physical buttons and rotary knobs for the temperature.

I assume this is an issue for a few bmw owners. My car is due in for service in January so i will let them know them perhaps. Or maybe when I make appointment I should send them an email to order the correct part as I don't want to bring car back in for service again.
Does anyone know which part they replace?? Is it the whole thing including the faceplate. Or is it just behind the faceplate?? |

It was broken after one year of using the car. Had it replaced and now again, one year after replacement it is broken for the second time.

I have had this issue also and i've replaced the climate control with the help of my dealer. It was a long process but in the end, the dealer changed it at no cost. BUT!! Be careful because you will get no documentation that the part was replaced under guarantee, and if it will happen again the dealer will not change it! Mine was replaced in may 2019 and the line has reappeared again(2 weeks ago, when i started the car in the morning). Make sure that your dealer will give you some sort of documentation of the part covered by "Terms and conditions". Good luck in getting the problem resolved!

This is why I would recommend anyone keeping these cars 4+ years to purchase the excellent BMW extended warranty platinum that will cover most of not all of these failure prone components. $50 deductible per service visit and you are good to go. The warranty will pay itself a couple of times over in the first 2-3 visits for unscheduled repairs. I believe here in the US you can extend your BMW warranty for up to 7 years or 125K miles. At that point personally, I would be ready for a new BMW anyway.

Hello! Yeah, the parts which we buy are covered by 2 years of warranty. Today I talked with BMW Group and they told me that each and every dealer has it's own autonomy(like throwing a dead cat in others' garden). I will do my best to find out if the parts changed under factory's guarantee are covered by the 2 years of guarantee, same as if bought. No solution yet, with changing the touchscreen the second time Thank you for letting everyone know about the excellent warranty, it's a "safety belt"! |

I can confirm I have the same issue, but I won't bother taking it to the dealer, to be honest. I feel like having them replace a line that will come back in a few months/year isn't really worth having them taking out the part and possibly, albeit unlikely, damaging the other parts of the car surrounding it. Never had a good experience with dealers when it was something other than an oil change...

Hi guys, I'm new here. I have the same issue - broken Climate Control LCD in the middle. I called my friend at authorized service and told him: "Hi, I have question about Climate Control LCD." Before I could say anything more, he replied: "You have vertical line in the middle which means your LCD is broken but it will function normally, don't worry. Of course we can replace it under warranty but within half year it will break again. I see it on 90% of all G30s that come here. It's a BMW quality issue." So I'm thinking to just leave it, it doesn't bother me that much on the other hand it's quite sad that this happens on a 100k USD car. Who had it replaced and it's still ok? Thanx

This is nothing new with BMW suppliers of high tech equipment. On my E39 the dashboard display had odometer and other data in a cutting edge dot matrix display. Over time the dots would wink out until the display became unreadable. It was a circuit board issue. Had one replaced with labour paid for by bmw. Cost £600. Failed a year or so later.
On an earlier E36 the dot matrix centre display failed in a similar way. However that cost just 3 pence. The price of a new capacitor which I soldered in place. Still going strong when we parted company. |

Good thing I have the standard 3 zone HVAC system so it comes with the more reliable LED panel.
Inexcusable that BMW has not addressed this annoying fault with the touch panels in the 4 zone system cars.

My guess would be that they introduce a fix for the panel on upcoming LCI.

Depends on your dealer and the price I would assume. I had retrofitted Gesture Control on my X3 and later during an update there was a problem with the module, so they replaced it with a new unit with gesture control.
