My deal is I want BMW to acknowledge there is a problem and they are working on a sw update to improve the initial acceleration. I do not want to take my car into the dealership and have them test it, flog it, and mess it up. BMW should know they have a problem and solve it at corp and not use our cars as test mules. I have had too many cars messed up by the dealership when they start playing around with the car.

Like i mentioned before, it might be worth trying to set up a Petition. May be catch some media attention. Anyone want to write up something on change.org?

The ombudsman can help resolve disputes with BMW. Those of you who are club members, can show bad performance data and show that the dealer was unhelpful could contact the ombudsman to help resolve the issue or at least get an official response from BMW. I can't do it since I don't have test data and haven't complained. It should be someone who is a club member and has solid data like from a Dragy (?). We can also point out that:

1. Car and Driver couldn't beat 4 seconds in the 2021 they tested in January.
2. Car and Driver tested a 2020 750i with the same engine, same transmission with virtually identical ratios, identical rear end ratio, and 400 lb more weight and it managed 4.0 secs.
3. Car and Driver tested a 2020 X5 M50 and it did 3.9 secs. It weighs 900 lb more.
4. Car and Driver tested a 2018 model with 456 HP and manage 3.8 sec!

Another possible data point: anyone here tested their stock pre-2020 M550i with 456 HP engine using a Dragy?

Seems like a lot of evidence here that something's fishy.

If you have data it would be worth it to join the club just to try to get an answer from BMW via the ombudsman. You'll get a nice rebate on your next BMW purchase or lease.

You know BMW CCA provides rebates on newly acquired cars, right (purchase or lease)? It's currently $1,000 on any 5 series - makes joining totally worth it:

Wish I would have known about that last year. They say you have to be a member for 6 months before purchase.

I'm bringing the car in on Tuesday. They're going to submit an online case to BMW. The only issue is that they need to include fault code info with the case, and AFAIK there shouldn't be any codes. But, we shall see. I'm more than willing to spend a few bucks on a rental if it'll fix this issue, or at least move it along with BMW.

The 2018 was as usual under reported at 456HP. Dinan had stock at 540HP at the crank.

Hope something positive comes out of it Mike. We're all going to be waiting for you to report back!
I should be able to test my LCI next month, but never been to the track before. I'll let you know my results as well.

My Jb4 has arrived. No fitting instructions for the LCI m550i / M850i is a bit of a ball ache however. Also Have some BMC air filters and an X pipe on the way. Need to get this thing moving and sounding right!

this really sucks. My 2019 m550i goes back end of year and was most likely going to lease a 2021 m550i although maybe 2022 will be out by then?

I know this is not stock, but here is a dragy of my 2019 m550i with dinan elite v2.

I feel a 3.6x run would be possible since if you compare the 0-10 runs between the 2, if I launched my 3.77 run like the 3.82 run, would have been a faster time.

There's about half a second missing from the M550i, It would be too close to the M5 Comp for the money otherwise...

11.7s quarter mile in wet conditions. This seems like how it should perform, no? That's pretty solid stock. I think all of us doing LCI dragy runs haven't really taken it 1/4 mile for the most part but I don't think we'd see anything outside of low to mid 12s at best with the issues in this forum. That to me indicates something is different from Euro models or if this is a press vehicle configured differently?

These guys got 3.8 sec 0-60 in a 2020 M550i. Australian review. It suggests that at least it’s not the engine’s fault. Don’t know if 2021 year would make a difference or US version is different.

That is correct, the M550 he is testing is performing well. However my stock M550 is not going lower than 12 secs.

Its just the 21s that aren't performing. The LCIs. The 2020s are fine.

I'm really surprised that it seems to be affecting US cars and not UK. At least the US cars still sound fantastic!

They did Tesla model 3 performances not long ago on a damp track and they did 11.7 as well. Given in theory they are quicker than the M550i (and it was running on a wetter track) I think the performance is pretty good.

Right I know lol believe me. The Carwow video is a 2021 model though is my point and it's performing well.

The m550i lci is only pegged back in 1st and 2nd. Its faster than an RS6 on a roll so no doubt high 11's is correct. The point is a heavier M850i with the same motor is 3.4-5 0-60 a d Mid 11's over the quarter. The M850i is a $100 grand plus car so I guess BMW didn't fee the need to reign it in

Hold down the DSC for 5 seconds to turn it completely off.

Put it in sport plus.

Put it in second gear (M2)

Brake boost

RPMs will go up to 3,000

Let go of the brake and take M2 to 6,000 RPM... then shift the lever to the right to "D".

I tried manually shifting to M3 and I just can't get the same results as shifting it to to the right "Drive".

if you haven't read my post before I have catless downpipes, JB4 and running E30.

also when I got the 3.83 I had 6 gallons of gas in the vehicle. with the 3.61 I have a full 18 gallon tank full.
Damn. Shouldn't be like that. Should have been launch and go but I guess this is what we have. Do you think your downpipes affected the results?

If I understand correctly, you have found a 'cheat code' for another 800rpm off the line?
