MSport brake squeaking

How do I make my MSport brakes stop squeaking? It's probably the one option I could have done without on my G30 (well, that and the illuminated grille).

They squeak at light-medium brake pressure, basically how much I push them on normal driving. If I let go and push the brakes again harder, they don't squeak. If I push them really softly they don't squeak (sometimes at least). If I slam on the brakes, they don't ever make noise.

I thought it was maybe cold temperature, but I ran into the same problem in 95 degree weather the other week.

Mine squealed pulling out of work the other day, first time ever and it was about 80F out. Never made noise in the AM at 39-55F. They are a mystery. I'm definitely going EBC Red when it's time to swap- hopefully they'll be quieter as I'm sure this is just the beginning for the squeaking.

Common issue with M Sport brakes, what I tend to do when I hear them squeaking is to do one hard stop (in a safe and sensible place). Don't have to be going too fast or anything, but just a hard jump on the brakes. I find this then stops them squeaking for a bit (few weeks normally), and then I repeat when I need to...! Worth a try...

Do you park outside? This sounds like it could be light corrosion that gets taken care of when your brake hard and could be normal. Otherwise it could be a indicator you need something with your brakes changed. If you've had the car for a while through different season and humidity and this is new.. I'd go get them checked.

I have a 2020 540i Msport with Sport brakes. And I have gone through and extensive and exhausting warranty claim with BMW to replace the entire set of pads and rotors front and rear. The squealing was beyond acceptable and obnoxious. I had to record 11 videos of the car braking, then open up a case with the district BMW rep here in Chicago because the dealer here in Chicago thinks its normal. Finally after exhaustive proof, It is complete and fixed. Its not like I ahve anything better to do being a business owner and employer.

Record it, then got to the Service GM and start the exhaustive time consuming process.

Sorry to hear some have had this problem. So far (10,000 miles) my 2019 540xi with M Sport brakes has not exhibited this brake squealing. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope you all get your issues resolved. --Bob

I have 22K miles on my 540i with MSport brakes and haven't heard squealing. Maybe the more humid FL weather helps? My car is garage kept.

I had this on my F31 330d MSport - had I not been planning to get rid of it I'd have taken it to a dealer because googling suggested that it's something they'll address for free.

I have 25k on my 19 with M sport brakes. They were silent for 23k. Now everyone once in a while I get a squeak. A parkway blast and a firm brake from say 60 to 20 when it’s safe is all it takes to quiet them down for weeks.

The brake pads have a high static COF. It’s par for the course because the pads are hunting between static and dynamic friction (think of it as in motion vs holding). I have the same issue especially at low speeds or when I back out of garage in morning. You may also notice when you use auto hold the car lurches forward when you slowly press on gas.

My 2018 M550i M sport brakes never made a sound and I had both front and rears done duing my ownership at the dealer. Zero squeaks then I traded it for a 2022M550i and these M sport brakes have squeeled coming to an easy stop since I picked the car up. I was the only owners of both cars and I'm fairly sure BMW has changed the pad suppliers after supply chain fun and games of covid.

Not sure about post-covid, because my MY20 M550i's brakes also squeal and it was manufactured in the summer of 2019. 47k miles on odo, but been squealing for a few thousand miles now.

Garage List
The m sport brakes are made by Brembo. Mine squealed terribly all the time at low speed but have now mostly sorted it by stripping everything down, cleaning & liberally applying Brembo B-Quite brake grease.
They still occasionally squeal slightly but it’s just something that you have to live with & strangely some squeal more than others

Likely has to do with picking up contaminants.

I drive mine as a daily here in Germany, so the opposite of FL weather.

Never had any issues so far.
