Screen Mirroring

Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to screen mirror from an iPhone to iDrive 7? It says to download Miracast, but I don't know which one to get. I also hear that it only works with android, so before I spend money I want to know which app to download, and if it works with an iPhone.

iDrive or Apple does not support screen mirroring from iOS devices. IDrive would need airplay support and it does not. Save your money or go Android if it's important to you.

There was a downloadable app on Mac, which allows you to screen mirror your phone to your computer. It did this by making your computer discoverable as an Apple TV. Maybe there is some way to do that with a BMW?

Honestly, I literally tried this two days ago as a new owner and I went though all the steps needed, such as signing up for ATT wifi in the car. Only to find after that BMW does not support Airplay which is what iDrive needs for it to be discoverable from an iOS device.

Trust me, do a search here (my thread from Tuesday) or on Google and you will see there is no support.

Bimmer-tech offers a product that will allow screen mirroring for the iPhone. I checked compatibility with my 2018 M550i and it says it will work, not sure about ID7 though? It's also a bit costly at $697.

Yeah I saw that but that's really bolting on something that supports airplay not enabling the native system. $700 bucks to screen mirror? I mean really, why do we need to do this? Sure it would have been "cool" but I wouldn't spend even $100 bucks on it.

I'd spend 100 but not 700 for screen mirroring.

I am guessing that BMW lawyers did not want people to have the distraction of things like videos showing on the car screen. I also wouldn't pay $700 for it.
I am happy with Car Play with touch controls.

I think they would at least let it work while parked.

This one is all Apple. I don't think they allow any car maker to add AirPlay 2 support to a car with CarPlay.

Wheeeel… Where was this thread an hour ago?

Well…. I did rename my WiFi hotspot, found the password (only exists from communication window)

And learned the ‘Option’ button will open new selections when a action button is highlighted.

😂

Also learned that when it says connect to screen mirroring… that is neither WiFi or Bluetooth, but rather Appleplay.

I feel so smart and dumb at same time.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S10+.

I can screen monitor very easily. Even while driving after coding. The drawback is that the screen on my I Drive 7 is about 2/3 filled in. It really looks silly and I dont use it. If it were full screen, I'd use it all the time.

I've found the same thing mirroring on the dash. I'll have to see if you can mirror to rear entertainment lol

Since posting in this thread back in April, I have discovered that you can screen mirror with a jail broken iPhone and you can do it full screen. I'm thinking of getting a burner iPhone just for this to keep in the car.

A little trick for you to try 🙂

Play a video off a USB drive or one saved on the car’s hard drive. Flick Idrive controller to left to get video relevant options, look for “Zoom” and save it as one of your selectable shortcuts via 1 - 7 numbers.

Just use the shortcut number while using screen mirroring to stretch the display, not 100% full screen but almost there. Works on ID6 and Dont see the reason why it won’t work on ID7 as well 👍

Easier way is to open smartview settings on your samsung and set 'override aspect ratio' and it will be fullscreen, you can even set it to save your preference.

As for the subject, I have spare s8 in the glovebox just for this purpose so I can play anything I want on the rear screens. All I have to do is enable hotspot on my iphone so that samsung has internet.

Hi guys,
I activated with expert mode, mirroring, video in motion, wlan, miracast in headunit 3000, 3001, 3002 and 3003 groups.
I see now on my iDrive7 menu "screen mirroring"
I see in iDrive7 display says : Miracast connect your mobile with bmw59864, I open on my Samsung "screen view" it founds screen mirroring bmw59864, but I can't get last request on iDrive7 to connect with question "would you like to connect yes/no".
So everything works good until last step when I have to connect Samsung mobile with Miracast screen mirroring in iDrive7 to make screen mirroring connected.

Does anyone of you had similar issue?

It works perfect with my old BMW car and iDrive6, but with iDrive7, probably I forgot to activate some parameter with bimmercode and don't know which one in Headunit option
