530d rough idle when cold
Hi
Just had a strange problem, and the local BMW dealer sorted it out, but it took some visits before it was fixed. I own a G31 530d 2019 with 90.000km on it engine code B57. The problem was that it didn't idle very nicely when cold. No fault codes at all.. It started fine and ran fine for 5-10 sec, and after that it felt like the car was misfiring a little. After a minute or two it got better, or if I drove for just a very short distance. Didn't run well in idle until normal operating temp was reached. Dealer tried different things but in the end a brand new manifold fixed it. Just wanted to share since I didn't find any description of this problem online anywhere. Best regards Bo |

Thanks for this feedback Bo! Maybe just a seal on the manifold, needing to expand with heat, who knows...
Did you have to top up coolant? I saw a small leak on the water pump. Mine is also 2019 530D, only 20000kms Fabien |

Hi Bo,
The flaps inside the air intake are here on the picture. They make turbulences at idle for a better fuel economy. They should be opened when accelerating and closed at idle. |

Hi
Yes, that much i know, it is the "uncontrolled movement" i didn't understand. There was no real carbon build up inside the manifold, but it must have ben defect somehow. Runs smooth now in all conditions. Best regards Bo |
