the whole faux sound thing regardless of make has always bugged me but it's quite evident why they do it in vehicles like the G30

finally got around to coding out ASD on my M550i today

noticeable difference - I can barely hear the exhaust in Sport now!

may look into resonator delete option - I did that on a Land Rover that had the Jag V8 and it was great - just the right amount of rumble

I did the same coding on mine. Unreal difference. The 'fake' noise they pump in is quite alot after you hear the car without it.
One thing i noticed after turning it off is that I could now hear the turbos and blowoffs during hard acceleration.

I am also considering removing 2 of the 4 resonators. There was a thread on this somewhere saying the 2020's and up have different mufflers than the 2017-2019's and if you cut off the 2 resonators closest to the muffler it makes a noticeable difference in sound. Nothing crazy loud, but a deeper tone and a few more pops and burbles.

The 5 series is so well insulated with acoustic glass etc you don’t hear much from the inside without the synthetic sounds. In the summer you can crack open a window to get some idea of what’s going on. Coming back from the ice rink yesterday me and my 5 year old had a tunnel blast with all the Windows dropped. Sounded glorious and upset all the Tesla’s haha.

Yes, the 5 is well insulated for sure. I don't have the synthetic sound, and I love to hear the real thing. I put Eisenmann exhaust on my previous M550, it was better for sure. This is my first M car, I'm going to drive my G80 C for a little while before I make a decision about exhaust

I should add that I have deleted the OPF, secondary cats and resonators. As a result the keeping the valve function for comfort mode is required. However i'm temped to disable the active sound with bimmercode just to see what it's like.

Hello.
I'm using BimmerLink to open the flap.
I pulled the fuse for F203.
I used ISTA to check the defect memory.
I got an error DME138102.
I cleared the error but it didn't go away.
I put the fuse back in and cleared the error and it was back to normal.
It's easy to work with fuses.
It is easy to work with fuses, but please note that the error is still occurring internally.

Thank you. I pulled fine 203 on my current M550, it didn't through and errors. I suspect the technology has advanced in my upcoming 2022 M3C, so it may not be as easy.

I received this and a few other error codes after pulling the fuse, including a CEL. Warnings I pulled: P12C6, P0247, 120408, 138102. Also wouldn't clear until I replaced the fuse.

Is this classified as a dead thread? Apologies if so.

I discovered fuse 203 was pulled on my 2019 M550, found out while troubleshooting the emergency calling malfunction. Thanks to this thread, I installed a new fuse and cleared the codes associated with pulling the fuse. I’m using bimmerlink to open the flaps which remained open after a quick drive. Engine off then back on and I was fairly certain the flaps stayed open. When do they return to auto with bimmerlink? Is it after removing the Bluetooth OBD interface? I’ll try a few more tests, I left the OBD link installed for the time being. Getting annoyed with this… the fuse was pulled and the flaps were closed which makes me wonder how long the previous owner romped on it with flaps closed. I doubt anyone would’ve pulled the fuse when running aftermarket exhaust. I’m hoping the fuse was missed when reverting to stock pipes for sale of the vehicle. Otherwise, the previous owner tried the open flaps/pull fuse mod and hosed it up nicely.

Thank you for the post guys, I handled it in 5 seconds. Not really sure there is much of difference but at least flaps are open now no matter what mode I'm in.

This "Trick" with the Fuse is great. Had it since 4 weeks and no problems. Differece with original exhaust was 0....now with the Remus Exhaust the Sound is nice, when the flap is always open

I have a 22’ m550i with this menu option available. Does this mean if I set it to sporty my valves are ALWAYS open thereby eliminating the need to pull fuses or buy extra controllers!?

Nope. That iDrive setting is for the fake speaker noise, not the valves. If you want the valves open all the time in comfort mode, you'd have to pull the fuse. Anyway, I don't own an M550i yet, but I almost always have to drive my vehicles in sport mode, due to a lethargic normal mode. Don't know if the M550i is any different, but probably not. Bottom line is if you drive in sport mode all the time, the valves would be open all the time, so no need to remove the fuse. However, the speaker noise gets louder in sport mode, so what I plan to do is lower it to the minimum (reduced), and see if I can live with that or not. If not, then just code it out, since I'll do all my maintenance, and will need an app to reset the annoying service reminders anyway. Hope this helps.
