I'm a regular on the G05 forum but not here as the G30 is my wife's lease which got what looks like superficial paint scuffs and possible scratches involving the driver door and side mirror (was folded-in thank goodness).

should I:
1) send to my detailer for buffing and paint correction which won't address the side mirror cap/LED repair/replacement. I'll also need to cover my own rental.
2) have insurance comp coverage fix everything. rental will be provided but premium likely will be hit.

thanks for guidance.

I don't want to advise you either way, but let me tell you what happened once for me:

I live in Florida, where insurance companies are required to replace your windshield for "free" if you get a ding/crack without penalty. So I had it replaced on my Lincoln Navigator. lol and behold, when the semi annual renewal came up, price went up and it also showed as a "less than $1000 claim" on my next insurance when I switched.

I prefer now to take care of something myself unless a major claim happens (God forbid).

I had a similar scuffs on my SUV where someone backed into my rear bumper. Through research I purchased 3M rubbing compound from Amazon. It buffed right out. Amazing stuff. Worth a shot for $12 if you're willing to do a little work.

At first, I read dealer instead of detailer. Take it to your professional detailer. He might likely be able to ping you in the right direction for the rest of the repair.

If it were me. I’d hand it over to insurance. That’s what I pay them for.

Seems silly to pay out of my pocket to save the insurance company money.

$1K collision, $250 comprehensive.

I would drop it off to BMW since they are in network for my insurance (Liberty Mutual) and do a claim of it exceeded the deductible amount.

Bring it to a detailer and have them buff out the door. Don't worry about the mirror as that won't buff out. Call it a day. You won't get dinged for the mirror and assuming that is not a major scratch on the door, it will buff out or be barely noticeable. Even if it's a bit of a scratch, it will buff down.

Do not go the insurance route. You will have an entry on your carfax and that will surely get the lease return folks attention.

Gave it to you or was a claim filed? I'm pretty sure the carfax entry is driven by the body shop, but it seems insurance claims coupled with body shop commissioned work are a sure thing for a carfax entry.

It's not the end of the world. I had a fender and front bumper replaced on my F10 through insurance and I didn't get dinged on return. If it's bad enough for an insurance claim, it is what it is. I didn't know there was another party involved. I thought your wife side swiped something.

at first we didn't know who hit her, thus my initial inquiry of how to handle it, but she just found out yesterday who it was and approached him (an associate physician). after he compared both vehicles, he gave his insurance info to her.

i assume I give his info to my insurance agent who will then follow this through?

You have two choices. You can call your insurance and file a claim, or you can call their insurance and file a claim. I think I would call your agent and explain the situation and ask their advice. I have a brick and mortar family owned insurance shop I use and swear by it vs calling 1-800-Gieco and talking to whoever answers the phone.

the offending vehicle owner is paying for the damages. he gave us his insurance info, and before I was about to call in the claim, he had already done so because the claim details popped up in my insurance app (he uses the same insurance company).
