Driving in the extreme cold weather (Toronto Canada)

With wind chill today the temperature is -24 degrees (-11 Fahrenheit).

Are there any cons to driving the 2018 540i Xdrive in this temperature? I have winter tires so I'm not worried about that, just worried about keeping the engine/battery good. My car's also parked in my garage every night, not outside.

The car should be OK. Winter is tough on cars but modern cars do fine overall especially garage kept cars like yours. Keep a close eye on tire pressures as it drops in cold winter weather.

All manufacturers do extreme cold weather testing. As far north as there are roads to get to their respective proving grounds.

I guess the other raving is just drive gently until the engine warms up ( which presumably may take a little longer)

Mechanical sympathy

If you want to know the oil temperature as well as the coolant temp you can access that via the hidden menu

With engine running hold down the reset button on the cluster after about 15 second or so you get som option , by pressing the button repeatedly you can cycle to unlock
Code to unlock is adding up the last 5 numbers of your VIN
Once unlocked one of the options will be temperature where you can display both coolant and oil temps
