Hardrace Bars and Braces

Anyone have any experience with these? I have a 540i xDrive M sport.

https://www.hardracesuspension.com.a...eries/g30-g31/

Specifically the front strut, front lower brace, rear subframe brace, and rearsway.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Was wondering if you did get the Hardrace suspension accessories?

The braces don't do anything, not in modern cars anyways.

If you think bmw left chassis rigidity on the table that could have been cured with 20 dollars worth of stamps/tubular steel you're out of your fucking mind.

Maybe if you put the stickiest rubber known to man on AND triple the spring rate and shock stiffness then you'd begin to feel something but these parts are a legacy of the 90s tuner scene when Japanese cars were made of paper mache

Chassis rigidity is one of those things that have 0 downside and manufacturers do everything possible to raise the bar here

It's not like suspension tuning where you're balancing comfort with performance, chassis rigidity has no downside.

There additional braces from the M5 that can be fitted in another thread. So they did leave something on the table.

An M5 weighs like 250 to 300kg more than a B48 or B58 car and has much stickier rubber and the brakes/engine to use this grip. If you're not pulling more G's with more weight, you're not benefitting from the extra stiffness.

The key here is more G's with more mass. You can pull just as many G's with far more mass and not require extra bracing.

No one deliberately leaves money on the table when it comes to chassis rigidity.

Can you always increase it ? Of course you can, adding material will always add stiffness but it comes with a weight and small cost penalty. The cost is meaningless when the brace is steel but if done poorly the stiffness/weight might actually be marginally worse with a brace than without (adding weight where it isn't needed or where it does not meaningfully alter the amount of deflection experienced in this context).

One of the reasons manufacturers will use a lightweight aluminum brace is simply because the chassis only needs marginal strengthening at that point so aluminum fits the bill (if steel is ALWAYS better than aluminum, we'd all be riding steel mountain bikes but they're nearly all aluminum).

The chassis is a whole system, strain/deflection occurs at the weakest points but once you optimize and most points are equally "strong", strengthening one particular location excessively doesn't do anything.

If you're strengthening a chain, you strengthen the weakest link first, then the next weakest, etc. Making one particular link made of adamantium doesn't do jack.

I've been looking at the different OEM sway bars. The only thing that worries me about aftermarket items is they delete the big rubber vibration dampers. I assume these are required for taking the harshness out of run flats mostly?

For the base M5 diameter of the fronts is 32mm and the rear 30mm. I don't know about the competition pack

I have the Hardrace front strut bar on F30, and it is absolutely perfect.

Could you elaborate "perfect" (I.e. fitment, performanc, etc…?….what is your overall experience w/ this strut brace? Do you feel suspension stiffness after this install? Thx.

Everything from packaging and delivery (ordered directly from them) to fit and finish.

On F30, I consider the strut bar an absolutely must have. The front of the car becomes significantly more rigid in torsion, more comfy, with more direct steering. However, the G30 is more rigid from the factory, and I cannot comment the benefits, as I haven't installed the strut bar yet.
