Regret buying the 530E

I regret buying this. Don't get me wrong, I love the car (despite some wind noise at the drivers side from the b pillar and a strange climate noise), it drives very well and is a handsome car.

I should have bought the 545E. Tried it today - I also regret trying it, because know I want it. There is something about a straight 6, they just drive so damn smooth.

Two months into an 8-9 month wait for a 545E here - I am hoping the wait it worth it - yet to even set eyes on one in the flesh!

I have a LCI so I am still waiting for the code to be cracked.

Not sure there is a code to crack, the e drive boost stays the same it's only the engine that gets mapped. What engine is in the LCI?

I think it's the same engine as the pre LCI, but I have checked everywhere, the G30 LCI can not be mapped yet.

DME lock on 2020+ Bosch units made ~June/July on up prevents the remap right now.

In regards to the 45e stateside- you can get an X5 45e though (specd one out for the wife the other day- didn't know any 45e models were out here at all).

Ah so the DME lock is the issue the existing maps are fine just can't be deployed got it!

If it's the same part number you could buy a used DME pre 2020 and have it coded and installed/mapped. Not not sure how much work is involved they are 500 Euro approx on ebay.

Shouldn't the LCI model get more HP because of xtraboost? It has 292 with xtraboost function. I guess with the engine map, it should get 390.

Pretty sure the pre LCI BHP reflects the car without extra boost. Seems the LCI adds the extra boost so may just be the way BMW presents their marketing data pre and post.

Anyway with the tune I'm getting 330bhp and 600nm torque.

It's a lot of fun.

Me too. Love the M550i, but with solar on the house, the 545 would have been the sweet spot.

It would seem inevitable that you will see the 545 Stateside at some stage, possibly with the touring?
That's the one I would have gone for, more our lifestyle, but not to be.
The wait time in Eu/UK is somewhat long for them, but given that they can be specced to a very high level,( I imagine this is where BMW are looking at their margins / profits) long waits are inevitable I guess - at least until the current shortages ease.
If you added in the NA market as well, then I guess the wait time would become unmanageable (think Morgan UK timescales)

It’ll be a cold day in hell before we get a touring anything

Same with the lack of 545, the us market is optimized around the x’s. The closest thing to 545 touring stateside is the X5 45e. It’s probably more likely that they cut out more 5 series trims and remove more options.

Is it just me or does every pic of the 545e look like the car needs to be lowered a little? I feel like the wheel gap is much larger than any 530, 540, M550. I haven't seen one in person, but I can't help noticing this in the pics. Maybe something to do with that engine? I know nothing about EVs.
