That's pretty much the one I returned the first time. It has all those notches that OEM doesn't have. I have a replacement just delivered, but I also bit the bullet and bought the one from Autotecnic for $30 bucks. That comes Friday.

All good. I installed the $30 Autotechnic. Fits, looks and works perfect. Didn't even try the Amazon replacement. Way too much to spend on what appears to be the same quality as the $15 Amazon options, especially since the Amazon ones came with a mini screw driver (not needed), a nice case, and putty. The Autotechnic came with nothing, a button in a zip lock bag, but in Apple like packaging.

Get it though eBay. It's $30 shipped from Autotechnic . Autotechnic website wants another $15 for shipping.

Nice, definitely post a picture of that. Blue should look pretty cool as well.

Hey Joe, I have 22 m550 and wanted to change my ignition switch to Red like the M5. Was originally thinking of going the OEM route (part#: 61318074017) but there was some discrepancy between the various OEM parts catalogs I inquired to. They were unable to confirm fitment/functionality even though I am pretty sure it’s just plug and play. Some catalogs even showed fitment with the 2021 m550.

Anyway I decided to look for the button instead of the whole housing, was going to order from Amazon but saw your posts! How is the autotecknic one holding up thus far? OEM look, quality, feel? I try to veer as far away from adding non OEM upgrades/parts to my car but this seems identical from your pic.

We share the same sentiment on using all OEM parts if possible. This was a slight exception for me because you can't buy just the OEM button as you know and changing out the entire unit just for a red button wasn't going to happen.

I can tell you that all of the red buttons I tried through Amazon and Autotecnik were of the exact same quality and fit and feel as the OEM black one I removed. Trust me, I studied both of them side by side. The writing and font was spot on. For some reason, the Amazon option hiccuped just a tad on release after push. I am sure 90% of people out there would not have noticed it and I am positive if the car came with this hiccup I would not second guess it, but my black one did not do it. The Autotecnik one works perfectly and has held up just fine. Super easy install too. It's a nice touch.

Hahah totally, don’t want to be one of those roaming around in a high end car with a bunch of tacky Amazon/ebay add-ons haha!

Really okay, glad to hear they have been thoroughly examined haha someone had mentioned one of the Amazon buttons’ lettering was slightly off either way you haven’t steered me wrong thus far as I followed your upgrade on the rear diffuser last year. Just bought the autotecknic one from eBay (LAST ONE) supposedly.

How did you remove the button since it didn’t come with any tools or putty?

Actually, you got my old brain working. I think that was me on the lettering. The orientation was ever so slightly tilted on the Amazon one. The writing looked exactly like my OEM black one, but the tilt would have definitely bugged me if it didn't click and I kept it.

Good call on going autotechnic via ebay. In terms of removal, most of these button kits come with sticky putty. You stick it in the middle of the button, make a little handle and pull back quickly, like a pop. That's the key, popping it back quickly. Super easy. Through all my trial and error, I think I put one back on and off 5 times.

Unfortunately the Autotechnic one didn't come with putty, but I still had the Amazon putty. I am sure you can use some duct tape and loop it over like a U and pull.

Keep me posted.

You mean send like in the mail or a link? I used the small putty that came with the Amazon cheapo.

Honestly, use some duct tape. Cut a 6" piece and stick the middle of it to the middle of the button. Grab the ends like handles and pull quickly.

This is the putty supplied with the Amazon ones, but I would just run down to Ace or Home Depot and pick this up if you want to do it now and if you don't have duct tape or something else:
