Add a trunk sub to a HK set up - now with pics of box.

hi, does anyone here have G30 Harmon Kardon set up and just added a trunk sub.

i was thinking of the following:

1. Get a stealth box and add a 12inch sub
2. Purchase the Technic PnP harness so no splicing or dicing into the Harmon Kardon Amp - just plug and play.
3. Plug the Technic PNP harness into aftermarket amp via a L2CI converte to get the high level input into low level.

questions:
where is the HK amp and battery located in the G30 boot? is it easy to access?

I am in process of doing this and your steps are correct. The amp is behind the trunk liner on the left side and the battery is under the center trunk compartment cover.

The issue I found is that there is not a lot of room to squeeze an additional amp. I am planning on building an amp rack to hang from the rear deck.

I used the technic harness to add a trunk sub. I put the sub amp under the sub

Yes you need a LOC. They sell both together.

What size/power sub did you put in the trunk and how well can you hear it in the cabin? Seems the trunk is insulated well and would block most of the sound.

thanks - this is useful

has anyone come across the Audio Control ACM 1.300 amp.

it essentially has the LC2i functions built it and is a 300 watt RMS amp at 2ohms?

https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...ACM-1.300.html

also - is 4 ohms better than 2 ohms?

this is true. and one of my main reservations for doing this. every sub I had in any bmw there was always something extra I did to get more sound out of the trunk.

my E36 coupe, I left one of the rear seats folded down when I could. my e39, I cut the ski hole out and left the arm rest down always. my e34 I could never get it to sound the way I wanted.... I was super young at the time so I "experimented" with the sub in the rear seat

The max high-level inputs of that sub is 5.4V, the max high-level output of the OEM HK Booster is ~26V. A LOC is required.

anyone, what would be a better option to power a JL audio 10W1-2 sub

ACM1.300
or LC2I and a Pioneer GM-9701 amp

ACM1.300 will be cleaner and less cables
LC2i and pioneer will have more power?

I would vote for the ACM1.300 as it seems to match up well with the power requirements for the sub and is a quality amplifier. The Pioneer seems way overpowered for your sub although I question whether in reality it delivers the power they are advertising.

I agree the ACM1.300 will a clean solution. However the sub referred to has its own amp. You’d need a passive subwoofer.

The question I have is if you put a sub in a box behind the seats. How do you secure it in place?

It's a stealth box

Are the oem hk subs worth amping externally?

Thinking a 3/5 channel amp as an alternative?
