2022 M550ix w/Individual choices

After finally getting an answer on the availability of Individual choices in the US my order was entered 28 Sept.

I have a production number, but it's on hold pending approval of my preferences in Germany.

This always make me smile, "approval from bmw"

What exactly is that, surely you are paying the money for something that's "not off the peg" , why do bmw need to approve it?

Am I missing something?

I believe it's related to their ability to obtain the materials required. Also, depending on the desired changes, some things may not be technically feasible or legal if it affects the technical/regulatory certification in the destination country.

The process for one of our customers who ordered Fjord Blue interior on the M340i took about 3-4 weeks for approval from BMW. I was told that included a feasibility study with the options as presented. For example, if the customer wanted rear heated seats added to the order, it would kick him back to the beginning of the process. Other part is likely sourcing the materials.

My M550i is now scheduled to be built 9 - 15 January 2022.

If all goes well I should see it here on the East coast by mid-February.

Apparently that was an estimate. The "My Garage" status moved to Production Scheduled last night.

When does that normally happen relative to actual start of production?

About two weeks before it goes to assembly
Then it finishes in a week
Spends a week waiting for a ship
A week to transport to the US
then depending on where you are, about a week to get to the dealer.

Mine entered assembly on 11/2, arrived at dealer on 12/3, picking up tomorrow 12/6. Couldn't do Saturday pickup because insurance companies are closed, etc

Does your order show 6UX iDrive controller classic? Apparently the iDrive controllers with touch pad have been removed due to the pandemic.
