Alloys flaking

Two of my alloys have this happening to them. Seem to be flaking? Any ideas? Car is under warranty. Car is 3.5 years old.

Common issue. In many cases this problem occurs when sloppy mechanics take off the center cap by prying instead of pushing out from the back or using the suction cup tool bmw forces dealers to buy.

Also tire techs who drag the center hole on the tire balancing machine is another good way to chip the finish and start this decay of the polished and clear coat finish.

Is this covered under the warranty?

As Claykin said, this is caused by human error. Unless you can 100% prove that ONLY your dealer ever worked on your tire or wheels, then you are most likely out of luck unless you have wheel and tire insurance (I do). I suspect that during your 3.5 years of ownership, you hit up a Direct Tire, Good Year, TownFair, Costco, etc. Personally, I would rather pay a little more to have only the dealer touch my wheels, plus their prices are not horrible on tires and they know how to do an alignment on these cars. Not so much the $13/hour tire kid at Good Year. If you must use these shops, take your caps off yourself first with some duct tape and a pull.

It's worth a shot. I doubt they will replace the wheel, they will have them refinished. If you have to pay, it's $150 per wheel to have them refinished. Refinishing is not ideal because you will be at the mercy of the skill level of the refinisher. Refinished wheel generally will peel again over time.

Thanks for the replies. Still on the original tyres only ever touched by BMW. Not covered by insured warranty.
