So......Just sold my 2019 M550. Best car I had ever had to this point. Loved it. I had been thinking for some time of buying an EV, but didn't think the i4 was big and luxurious enough, and didn't like the iX. So, yesterday, I pulled the trigger on a new 2022 Mercedes EQS. I got the 450+, with lots of options. It is awesome, quicker than the 2014 E350 I had (which I loved) and so luxurious. The Bermester stereo is the best I have heard in a car, much better than the B&W in my M550, which I loved. Obviously not as quick as the M550. But I like the new challenge of maximizing my battery mileage with strong recuperative braking, etc. Anyway, no point in continuing to post about the M550, since it is no longer mine. I have really enjoyed communicating with all of you, and all the fantastic information available on this forum. Thanks to all of you. Best wishes for the future. Farewell and good luck.

I am gradually becoming more intrigued with EVs.
Curious to hear more about your order beyond the 450+ What did you spec? Is the two-tone paint available or was that just on the concept?

Thanks, guys. Mine was the first one sold by the MB dealer here. It was not ordered, just became available and I jumped. It is diamond white metallic, with space grey leather interior. Premium trim, with AMG interior and exterior upgrades and 21 inch wheels. Love it so far. I'll check back from time to time with updates if you like. For now, I'm in the learning stage.

Me also. I have a refundable reservation on a Lucid Air Pure but, as noted, that is refundable (and only $300 anyway). Very interested in how the MB EQ drives.

Jeesh, a Benz and an EV Benz. A double whammy. Good luck, traitor
EDIT: Seriously. thank you for all your contributions here and wishing you the best of luck. I am boycotting anything EV until someone (the government) holds a gun to my head.

I'm very much interested in your experience. Even if it ends up being something where you feel more comfortable logging it over on MBWorld or the like share the URL so I can keep up with it!
I still very much liked my Benz and have been watching what they've been doing in the EV and in-car tech space to see if they could win me back when I swap cars next. The whole iDrive 7 lite fiasco I got hit with wasn't a very good introduction to the BMW brand for me. Keep us posted! |

My garage is not yet set up to charge, but the ChargePoint Homeflex is on backorder, maybe in 3 weeks, and an electrician is scheduled to come over next week and install the NEMA 6-50 plug reuired. So far, other than some anxiety about charging, things are going well. MB supplies (an option, actually) a 115 volt emergency charger. I used it last night and it put in about 9%, which is just slightly less than I use each day going to the golf course and back, and the car shows me all the ChargePoint chargers in the area, several near my house. I'll use them as necessary until the garage is equiped. Amazing how much energy braking with the strong recouperation paddle puts back in the battery. I expect to have to charge once or twice a week, unless I increase my driving. So far, driving it is a dream, quiet, smooth as you would expect from an S class Mercedes. Rear axle steering makes parking a breeze. It is definitely not slow, but not as quick as the Teslas, etc. But, I bought it for the luxury, which is awesome. Always wanted an S class. Window tint is next on the agenda.

I absolutely love the interior. Personally I wish they kept the outside more Classic MB S class styling but I am a slow adopter on aesthetic change.
She’s a beauty in any case and I hope you enjoy your ownership experience. I hope you come back to post after you have logged some miles. I an ICE loving red blooded American but I’ve also become curious about EVs since I know it will happen in my lifetime. Hoping I get 36 months with an M5C before I go EV ! Wishing you the best on your new ride. Thanks for your help while you had the M550.
I went to MB website and checked out your car. Its pricy, to me, at 100K + for something like that. The 0-60 spec of 5.9 seconds was alarming to me as well. I thought EV's were supposed to be much faster than that. The other thing I noticed on the MB site was that the Range of your vehicle was "TBD"? I dont know if I could buy something without knowing how far it goes until I need to recharge it. But that's just me. Enjoy it ! |

Very good choice. The EQS is my favorite EV to date (at least till BMW unveils the i5 and i7 ) I also grudgingly agree that the top burmeister audio is better than b&w, which seems to be a rare opinion.
I even have to wonder this about our M550’s…how much acceleration is enough? Ev’s especially always get evaluated on how fast they accelerate compared to teslas. At a certain point, is it really improving your driving experience? I’d gladly give up a couple of seconds of seconds 0-60 vs a plaid for the amenities and quality of an Eqs, no question. |

But it doesn't surprise me. I am still convinced Mercedes does a much better job with the sound stage in their cars. I don't know if it is the fact that they tend to have 2 sound levels so they can focus all of their energy on optimizing their upgraded sound option. BMW might be stretched too thin with 4 different sound system options on the 5-Series (only 3 available in the US). |

I incidentally have only really experienced the high end in an e class. Not for long enough to be certain, but on a quick test drive it sounded a bit better. You’re right though, mb seems to be meticulous beyond what the numbers would show. |

Good luck with the new car! I bought a 530e the other day and enjoy putting around town without using any gas. It's kind of fun charging it everywhere to be honest, way more than I was expecting. I'm currently in the car charging a bit so I can get home without gas.

Well, this obviously is not going to be my last post, I will stick around and let you guys know how it is doing. The 5.9 0-60 time is erroneous, IMO. Closer to 5 seconds. It is a 5000+lb vehicle. Lots of torque, though. The SOC in the car is telling me my max range is 405 miles. Edmonds tested it to 429. MB says 350. I'm definitely getting more than that, depending on how I drive, of course. The Burmester certainly sounds much better to me than the B&W did, but there is also much less cabin noise. I'll post again in a couple of weeks and let you know how it is going. Thanks for all the responses.
