Activating full screen Apple CarPlay yourself

Hi there

Has anyone activated CarPlay themselves on their G30s?

I'm in the UK and had some quotes for £200+ which seems really high to me.

Started to research myself - I know my car with EVO version and i-step version is compatible. Looks like I could do it with an ENET cable and the 'Feature Installer' software. But I need to generate an FSC code from my VIN I think.

Anyone got any ideas on steps and what's needed?

Alternatively anyone know someone in the Coventry area in UK who can do it?

You are correct about the method. Enet cable and feature installer are enough.
Quotes like 200 bucks are really high. If interested, pm me and i can give you lot of cheaper alternative.

With I-Level 21-03-5xx and above, fullscreen CarPlay can be enabled via coding. Use Bimmercode or E-Sys on headunit (NBT-EVO) and set CARPLAY_FULLSCREEN flag under HMI to 0x01 (aktiv). No need to do the older USB or ENET .ini hack.

This works when car has carplay from factory

$50 bucks USD is the going rate. Plenty of people offering this. I have a guy who did mine. It is as simple as giving him your VIN. He creates a batch file specific to your car, sends it back, save to desktop, plug in a Windows laptop, run the file, done.

I don't have carplay at all at the moment - assume I need to activate this first? Which is what I've been looking into...

This did not seem to work for me, I do have CarPlay and it is activated.

What Integration Level are you on? You probably need to upgrade yours software.

The best and safest way to get Carplay is the official way, from the Connected Drive store, the subscription is for life.

By getting it from third parties, you risk losing your warranty(if you still have it) or by losing the Carplay function when updating your car in the future, at the dealer.

Although I completely agree with just paying BMW for it vs. paying for a hack, risk losing warranty???

Yes, not for unrelated parts obviously but let's say you have an Idrive related problem, or a screen problem and you take it to the dealer and they see it's flashed they will not change the part under warranty.

I can see this happening, so just have to make sure if going with 3rd party solution, get a well known one, and that allows you to flash back to OEM before taking in for service… yes its more hassle. I'd pay 300, but knowing that 2020+ gets free carplay but doesnt apply to previous years, makes me want to give my money to someone else, i understand if they give free carplay to previous models, the ones who had paid might be upset.

Yes that is true.

BMW has been criticised heavily for their policy about Carplay, when other companies offered the service free even on older and much cheaper cars.

And that's not only Carplay, there are many services that still require payment like RTTI, parking on spot, weather, voice search with Google, etc
