Deposit placed - 2019 M550

Hey all, I've been on these forums for a while and just sold a M340 and am looking for a M550. I have a deposit on this vehicle and a prepurchase happening tomorrow, was hoping to get the forum's thought. Any concerns? Any input is appreciated!!

Looks real nice to me. If possible try to get a vehicle history report so you can see what its been serviced for. Of course get a Carfax also and make sure the title is clear, but other than that looks nice to me.

I bought my 2020 in Sept for 67K. Had 10k miles and a few more packages including extra set of Winter wheels/tires. So i think the price is good.
I have the same interior in mine and love it.

Very nice car.

The advert says loaded but it's missing a few items to be fully loaded including ceramic controls, B&W sound, rear climate, night vision, rear entertainment, leather dash.

Still very nice spec.

Also what's the weird strange white square in the instrument panel picture? looks like an error or someone put that in the photo after taking it to hide something.

The strange "white weird box" that you're referring to is actually the speed limit info.

Never seen it displayed like that before it's usually a round speed sign with no speed at all in it if it's off road.

Seems like a glitch to me.

Hey all thanks for your comments to date. Blue/Mocha is my preferred setup so this is the best optioned one currently on the market. Was hoping for a 2020 but not many on the market.

It took me awhile too, but eventually I found one that I loved.
The 2020's have just about everything a 2021/22 has minus the headlights / tail lights , OTA updates and remote start. I definitely will be adding the tails at some point because they are so nice. I actually prefer the 2020 headlights vs the 2021/22's because they lost some abilities.

The engine upgrades, larger turbos and big power boost are also worthy for 2020 vs 2019.

The engine upgrades are definitely worth it but the 2020s are currently hovering about $10k more than a 2019. I figure that $10k can go a long way in a 2019.

I hear ya on that. I got lucky in late August when I found mine for 67K. Put an immediate deposit on it, and was delivered 1 Sept. Shortly after that the used car market went berserk because of the chip shortages.

That’s the way the speed limit display is on North American cars. A white rectangle with black writing in it.

I believe you can actually change that with bimmercode to use the much nicer Euro style round red circle with black outline like an actual speed sign in EU.

Works much better with the general panel layout and colour scheme.

Looks very nicely equipped. All dealer adds say "loaded" which doesn't mean much, but this car has most. I'd say the most glaring omission for a "loaded" car is B&W. The others that CnSky noted aren't very common.

Personally, the wood in it would be at the bottom of my list, but it would not stop me. Other little touches like leather dash and alcantara headliner are a nice to have. But the price looks good. I see it is not for sale from a BMW dealer, so you only get what's left on the 4 Yr original warranty which I am guessing it is up this year. A 2019 most likely has a late 2018 build date. So factor that in and is usually why the price isn't $3-5k more. Check that carfax for accidents though. I always wonder why/how used car dealers get their hands on a car like this with low miles assuming the original owner traded it in either at a BMW dealer or other dealer and there is no way they wholesale this off to a used car lot in this scarce market. If the original owner did trade it at a BMW dealer, why didn't they keep it to CPO? The most common reason is an accident. They don't CPO cars that were in significant accidents.

Just some things to question and find the answers to. Good luck!

Square in the US, round in Europe. Different strokes for different folks.

Is it always so white? Just seems to be clashing with the general instrument panel colour scheme.

It's also square which is a clash as it's the only square sign on the entire panel.

See Euro spec below this can be coded to a US car via bimmercode and IMHO looks much nicer.

FYI I realise US version below is an X3 posted for comparison

As Joe mentioned earlier, you're probably close to being out of 4/48 warranty. Fortunately you can purchase a variety of extended warranties through your BMW dealership. I'm sure you know this as you're coming from another BMW.
Use that 10k you're saving and get a nice extended warranty for peace of mind!

It's actually 4yr/50K from in-service date. My 2014 had a build date 11/13 but in-service wasn't until 3/14.

Thanks Herkhealer - Yes, there are 12 months left on warranty. I've priced out a BMW Warranty and got some third party options too.

You're welcome. There are many, many postings here about BMW and 3rd Party warranties. I have until Oct 2023 to extend mine, so I'm not shopping around just yet. Glad you have quite a bit left on yours. Just in case something goes wrong.

Here's a tip: Check your coolant level in the main tank (rear drivers side). The cap will probably be a PITA to get off. There are SEVERAL of us M550 owners who have had issues with this. BMW says its "normal" for these cars to burn up coolant, but we tend to disagree. And several members here have had warranty repairs.

Mark, we should shop together. I'm up 1/22024☺️. Maybe we get a package deal.
