M340 to M550 Intro

Hey, I recently posted I was considering a M550 and got great feedback from the forums on the link I posted. Thanks everyone for the help! Photo attached of a 19 M550 I picked up, looking forward to some modifications.

If anyone has some shops in Northern Viriginia/DC they can recommend please let me know! Resonator delete and some cosmetic mods are first on the list.

In terms of the M340 v M550 I don't think there's much comparison, the M550 is wildly better. Much faster and far more comfortable. The adaptive driving feature is amazing. I drove this car from Atlanta to DC and for long periods of time the adaptive driving assistance did most of the work.

Looking forward to contributing to the 5 series forums now!

Here you go - I was stuck between Tartufo and the Mocha for a while. I'm happy I went with Mocha.

Looks nice! I have the same color! Tint the window and get IND painted front reflectors!

Congrats, welcome to the fold. The 5, especially a well optioned one like yours, is decisively better than a 3.

+5 for exterior color choice.

The wheels we have are, in my limited experience, a bit soft. I was detailing my car (including the wheels which I took off) and noticed one of mine is slightly bent. Dealership supposedly repaired one before I bought it so, eeeeeeeesssssshhhhh.

Thanks all for the comments. Tint is already schedule for tomorrow! Spacers, mirrors, black grill and intakes are ordered badges etc....

Resonator delete is scheduled for Friday.

Probably somewhat polarizing but I will likely get the brake calipers done as well. I'm also looking for gloss black rear diffuser, sideskirts and front lip.

My biggest "concern" right now is the slight odor coming from the HVAC. Lots to study in the forums already so I have my research to do there.

Get some Würth AC cleaner. Put AC in recirc, spray into heater vents at footwell (fan running), turn fan off and empty can into system. Let sit and it should be good.

Note for anyone switching from the M340 to the M550, the M550 is significantly lower at the front end.

First thing I reminded my wife when she drove it. She's coming out of an X3 M40i so it was super vital to remind her. This thing is *low* in front.

What year M340 were you coming from? I am contemplating seeing if the dealer wants to buy out my lease so I can get an M550. Not many comparisons out there. The value on used cars are so high right now.

You probably got the odor addressed by now, but if the odor tears up your eyes and nose a bit, it is probably leaking turbo coolant lines. Common issue, they replace with re-engineered ones.

Thanks Joe - No irritation of the eyes/nose, more of a foul type odor smell. I have not resolved it yet as my commute is 3 miles, but it's on my list of things to do.

Mine was similar and it doesn't start burning your eyes and nose until they really start leaking and burning off in the valley of the engine. I had to add coolant every 4-6 weeks or more. So keep an eye out for that. I was adding coolant frequently and thought it was just consumption.

Anyway, just tip, congrats and welcome to the M550 club, beautiful car inside and out!

I went with this diffuser. Very good fit and quality for the price. Just waiting on my Dinan double rounds.
