Oil temperature on bmw 530E LCI

Hello guys,

I have noticed something peculiar with my 530E regarding the oil temp running on patrol only (not hybrid mode - forcing it to use gas only by utilising sport mode).

The oil temp under sports display is fluctuating between 75 degrees C to 90 degrees C.

When I floor it, the oil temperature drops from 90 to 75 degrees.

When driving normally (highway speeds) the oil is at 90 degrees C most of the time. Sometimes it drops to 80 degrees C.

Does the 530E LCI have a oil cooler that activates sometimes to cool the oil to under 90 degrees C?

Or should I take it to the dealership?

I guess it only happens when it's hot outside, but I am not sure. Anyone else experienced this?

Well, currently in Eastern Europe. 530e pre-lci. Coolant temperatures are 108-112C. For the oil it is approximately 105C. Outside temperature is 18C at night. The inbuilt temp. sensor in cluster is right in the middle of the scale indicating temperatures are good.

Right now in search of the information if it is ok in my case. Found something about different cooling MAPs, so such drops of yours could be a normal thing because it was written that in High mode the temperatures drop, while Eco/normal are increasing the overall temperature.

That is off to me.

My oil temperature is consistent once it is warmed up. It doesn’t drop under throttle or move much in general. No matter what ambient temps are.

I’d suggest getting it looked at especially if under warranty.

But others may have more details to share.

Hello, I have the exact same behavior as you described above. The cooling temperature stays under 90 deg. Did you solve it ? Or is it normal ? Thanks !

Didn’t solve it. Car drives fine - so didn’t look more into it.

During normal cruise the temp will be higher for emission reasons. Once you start flooring it voil cooler opens up to lower temp and keep them in check under heavy load. It's all normal.
