M Suspension vs Standard Suspension vs Adaptive Suspension
Hello,
I am ordering my new 540i with M package, and I was wondering if I should keep the M Suspension, or chose the standard one (free of charge). Also, I was wondering if for 700 euros will be the smart decision to go for the adaptive drive. I will be driving the car 60-70% in town, and 30-40% on trips around the country and other countries. Thank you, and hope you can share some of your experience. |

Definitely adaptive. And I highly recommend you xdrive.
I drive my 530i xdrive on curves with high speed and chassis just adapts to the road angle. Gives you a terrible safety feeling. I tested xdrive on heavily rain (Pirelli Soto Zero 19") and absolute stable at 180Km/h. Also these days on snow & mud (Conti TS850 18") drive fantastic at 90..100Km/h.

My car is the only G30 I have driven, therefore I cannot comment on other setups but I am very happy with mine.
Xdrive, M Sport passive suspension, IAS and 20" with non-runflats (and 19" with runflats for winter) Comfort is very subjective but I find the ride very comfortable. Handling is beyond my expectation. I regularly take it up to high speeds - hit the speed limiter countless times - car is very stable at high speeds. I ordered my car without any test drives which is not wise but i did not have the opportunity. It is best to test drive each set up if possible and decide what suits you better.

I would strongly suggest you try out the combinations you are interested in as only you can decide on what's best for you.
Many here happy to chip in with views but only you can decide what you like. Bear in mind wheelsize aswell as that could have a bearing on comparisons , you want to be comparing apples with apples so to speak. Having said that I have vdc (or escape what ever bmw are calling it this week) on 20 inch wheels and run flat tyres and am happy with that. Not saying it is like floating on air as it isn't but comfortable pretty much all of the time and the sport setting does firm things up to the point when even in a motorway you can feel smaller underlations. It's noticeable. As I say try out combinations and see what YOU think |

Since this was first posted 4 months back you've probably already ordered or received the car. As others have suggested, drive the different options before you buy. For the benefit of anyone reading this that is still trying to decide, here's my input.
I ordered the standard 704 sports suspension on my 540i M Sport and love it. I've had 2 previous BMWs with the adaptive suspension - 7 years with an E90 M3 with EDC where there was little difference between Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus and 2 years with an F30 340i with Adaptive M Suspension where Sport was too firm on runflat tires and comfort was too soft/floaty regardless of tires. My experience with BMW is that the standard 704 sport suspension (passive, not EDC adjustable) is the goldilocks suspension. There may be times you want a little more firm or more comfort, but 95% of the time this is just right, especially on the G30. My last 5er M Sport - an E39 528i 6MT Sport - also had the standard 704 sport suspension at the time and was equally good for that car. Then again, there will be plenty of owners that swear by the adaptive and that's just fine. |

I have the m one and it’s perfect! No need for more confort than what is offers. I think the adaptive one is a marketing trick, as I have tested multiple cars with that and I can’t feel
The difference, and for me it wasn’t worth the money. But I advise you go and test it. |

I just ordered 2021 540x with M Sport passive suspension. Are you still satisfied with suspension for all around driving, especially over bumpy pavement?
Thanks Quote:

Not much going on lately here, but it's tough to find the adaptive suspension in TX unless you have a special order.
I found a near perfect Certified 2017 540i M w 26k miles with passive suspension on 20 inch wheels - changed RFT to Michelin PS4's (I use Tireject, valve remover, plug and a Kensun Air Compressor for emergencies). My M also has the rear wheel turning thingie. This setup is excellent for me. I drive aggressively but safely and like to take turns and winding roads. This is enjoyable.
